In the high-altitude theater of Argentine wine, there are two ways to play the game. There is the well-trodden path of bus-tour bottles and buffets, and then there is Mendoza with Fede. For those who view travel as a quest for the "exclusive," Fede is the region’s whisperer. He doesn’t just provide; he curates. His specialty is bypassing the grand gates of the wine giants to find the hidden gems—places where the dust on the bottles is earned and the stories are told by the people who actually know wine. The Morning Ritual: Mate and Malbec Fede was at our door at 8:30 a.m. sharp. But before the first grape was discussed, there was the mate. As we drove forty minutes out of the city, Fede introduced us to the communal activity of Argentina. MATE! By the time we arrived at our first destination, we weren't just tourists; we were part of the local rhythm. Stop 1: Steampunk and Purity at MAAL Our first stop was MAAL, a winery whose motto—"Pure Malbec"—is a testament to their obsession. The aesthetic here is a jarring, wonderful surprise: a "steampunk" vibe that feels both industrial and artistic, set against the jagged backdrop of the Andes. We moved through a tasting of distinct wines, each with a narrative that Fede helped bridge. Stop 2: The Biodynamic Soul of Chakana Next, we moved to Chakana, a winery that has become a vanguard for biodynamic and organic viticulture in the region. Here, the focus remained on Malbec...one rooted in the harmony of the land. Lunch and yes, more Wine. The highlight, however, was a lunch at Martino Wines that redefined the "winery meal." It was intimate and unhurried, a series of plates that paired perfectly with the wine in our glasses. This wasn't a cafeteria line; it was a slow-motion celebration of Mendoza, its foods, and its wines. The Final Note: Olive Oil and Artistry We ended our day not with a grape, but with an olive. Our final stop took us into the world of olive oil production, a craft often overshadowed by the vine but no less storied. And of course, more wine. The Verdict: Skip the Hordes Fede’s hospitality is built on the foundation of being "comfortable and informed." In a region that can sometimes feel like a wine-fueled theme park, Fede provides a sense of stability. He offers the luxury of intimacy—the feeling that the vineyard was opened just for you, and that the man leading you there is a friend who happens to know every secret in the valley. The Essentials: The Guide: Fede (Specialist in hidden gems and intimate tastings). The Time: ~ 8a-5p The Highlights: Mate lessons, MAAL’s steampunk architecture, and Fede's friendship. The Vibe: Exclusive, educational, and deeply personal.

It all started with a day of Fede and I sharing some Mate and getting some real quality time in the vineyards at Mendoza. It's just basically you, Fede and 1-2 staff from the winery the entire trip. You learn everything about history, grapes, manufacturing in addition to tasting. Fede himself is an argiculture engineer and has run his own brewing business. You must take the trip with Fede. You can thank me later.

From the moment we booked our wine tour, Fede made us feel like we were coming to visit an old friend, not just meeting a guide. Before our tour even started, he was quick and attentive — checking in, offering helpful info, and making sure we felt welcomed in Mendoza. When he picked us up, he surprised us with pastries and mate, which instantly set the tone — it felt like a local experience shared among friends. Throughout the day, he took us to three incredible boutique wineries in Luján de Cuyo, each with its own charm and personal touch. Fede stayed with us the whole way, adding great conversation and insight about the wines, the people, and the region. It never felt rushed or scripted — just easy, fun, and genuinely memorable. If you’re looking for a guide who’s more like a friend showing you around his home, Fede is the one to go with. Couldn’t have asked for a better day in Mendoza!

Fede was an excellent guide. He told us about the traditional mate drink. My husband liked it. He also told us about his family. He took us to three beautiful wineries. They were unique and lovely. We did a tour at the first two along with wine tasting. The last one we had an incredible lunch with wine pairings. Fede was very knowledgeable about the wineries and was a great driver too. I would highly recommend him as your guide.

My wine tour in Mendoza with Fede was an absolutely fantastic experience! From the moment we started, it was clear that Fede’s deep knowledge as an agronomic engineer and winemaker himself made all the difference. He provided fascinating insights into the entire winemaking process, from vineyard management and harvest to fermentation and sales. We visited three wineries, each unique in its approach. The second winery, Chakana, stood out with its focus on biodynamic wine growing, which was truly eye-opening. Every stop included warm hospitality, passionate hosts, and, of course, excellent wines. The tour concluded with a world-class lunch at the third winery, paired with another outstanding selection of wines—a perfect way to end the day. Beyond the incredible wines and food, Fede’s expertise, enthusiasm, and friendly approach made the tour truly special. He has a way of making you feel at home while sharing his deep knowledge of the region and its wines. If you’re in Mendoza and love wine, this tour is an absolute must. Highly recommended!

Fede was the best host you could ask for. Fantastic person and very knowledgeable about wine and the region. One of the best things we did while in Argentina. The hand selected wineries were unique and in incredible. Couldn’t have asked for a better day or wine. Highly recommend!
