One of our most popular tours: Luxemburg is certainly a modern and vibrant city with a rich history and impressive ancient and contemporary architecture. In the old part of Luxembourg, our guide will take you to the cathedral, the Palace of the Grand Duke and the Place d’Armes. In downtown Luxembourg you will enjoy a spectacular view of the Kirchberg district, home to several European institutions. In the valley, you will be able to see a trail of the Casemates, the abbey of Neumünster, the city walls and the picturesque sites along the river Alzette.
After some free time in the city, you will explore the quaint town of Dinant, with its fifteenth century collegial church and its impressive citadel. Dinant’s name originates from the Celtic “Divo Nanto”, which means “Sacred Valley”. This little town is dramatically perched on the narrow banks of the River MeuseI. This is the cradle of the Leffe beer and the birth place of Adolphe Sax, the inventor of the saxophone.

The guide, Bruno, did a great job and provided a lot of history and detail on our walking tour. My only drawback was how much bus time there is. There is nothing the tour can do to help this, it's the only way to get out there, but it really needs to be considered when choosing this tour.

We had the tour guide Stefan and he was amazing. He set expectations from the start about punctuality and the trip ran smoothly, he was able to provide a lot of history and information about Luxembourg and Dinart and provided a really good walking tour of Luxembourg to ensure we saw as much as we could. Stops factored in for the toilet for the long journey. I think the only negative I have would be more free time in Luxembourg to explore a bit longer and cut down the time in Dinart as we arrived late and not much open when we got there but nevertheless a great day trip, you won’t be disappointed.

First, I want to say that Phillippe did a masterful job as our driver. This trip lasted about 11 1/2 hours, and he handled all the twists and turns in the roads. Luxembourg is an elegant, historical country that I had wanted to see for awhile, and Dinant is a lovely, quaint river city with its own rich history. I am less enthusiastic about our tour guide, Jan. I am certain that this trip would have been better with a different guide. He spent a lot of time talking loudly and endlessly, about Napoleon, etc. He was insistent that we use our amplifiers and earbuds, yet his voice was so loud I could easily hear him wherever we were. He may think the same of me, but I thought he was rude at times. When we first got off the bus at a rest stop, he had been so busy rambling on and on about Napoleon that I never heard him tell us the washrooms needed euros. We were also on a short time frame. I told him that."Didn't your travel agent tell you about this?" No, I told him, Viator doesn't mention rest stops and where we'll need euros. Then I heard him say to the driver, right in front of me, "There's always one!" I was stunned at his rudeness. Later, I tried explaining to him that I'm from the United States, and pay toilets aren't the norm everywhere. He said he had been in the United States. Great: then you'd know that your U.S. guests might need to be forewarned. It's not just about the money; it's about obtaining a coin if you don't have one on you. He talked and talked, interspersing his words with "Thank you for your attention!" Towards the end of the trip, we were in Dinant, and he made a point of looking for me. In front of the rest of the group, he said, You can go buy a beer if you need to use the washroom. I said I'd be fine, but he persisted, at which point I told him he wasn't funny. He loved to talk, but it wasn't necessarily informative in the way other guides have been, like the guide from my multi-city trip on Tuesday. Another post mentioned the need for better washroom planning; after all, it's a 11 1/2 hour tour. I agree that this need will affect everyone on a tour, not just one woman. I think Jan needs some instruction in dealing respectfully with the public, listening more, and not talking LOUDLY FOR AN HOUR nonstop.

The tour started right on time, with a knowledgeable guide. The guide had clearly explained the expectations from the tour at the beginning which helped us to plan. The bus ride was smooth. The cities were visually stunning. However, the tour felt somewhat rushed, with a disproportionate emphasis on the free time at the end. I found the dual language tour (English/French) to be less enjoyable, and I would have preferred a solely English tour. The guide provided an overview of the key locations, with the expectation that we would revisit them during the free time. Unfortunately, by then, we had forgotten the historical significance of those spots. I’ve participated in other tours in various European countries where the guides would provide detailed information about castles, churches, and other historical sites, accompanied by ample time to explore them. This approach allowed us to retain the historical context while also having the opportunity to see the sites.

It was a great experience. The guide had very good knowledge and could converse very well in English. The timings maintained were totally as per the plan. Overall, a very satisfying trip.
