We started the journey as clients/guides, we parted as firm friends. I was part of a group of intrepid travellers – mainly folks in their 60s and 70s who spend a major part of their lives seeking adventure, insightful experiences, and a deeper understanding of the world around us. We are all impressed with the way the tour was managed. Beware though, that internet and mobile services are spotty and intermittent. As a seasoned corporate road warrior I had the delusion that I could still carry on my work during the tour, and it was with a significant amount of secret relief and a little glee that I soon gave up all attempts, and became fully present in the moment in that place, gawking at the raw, majestic beauty of Gilgit-Baltistan. Amidst peaks, valleys, and glaciers; after hikes and road journeys; we shared meals, discussed our passions, debated politics and philosophy - deep, meaningful conversations with curious, kindred spirits. We are already planning a future trip together. Sure, your ultimate experience will depend on your own mindset and who you are with, but Crossroads Adventures made it all possible.

This was my first visit to Pakistan. Friends told me to expect amazing sights and views, excellent food, and friendly people. Crossroads Adventure delivered all of these, and more, during our tour of Gilgit-Baltistan. The sights included historical landmarks, the border crossing at Khunjerab Pass, and the unexpected bonus of ubiquitous brightly decorated trucks, covered in elaborate floral patterns and calligraphy. The views of the snow-capped Karakoram, Himalayas and Hindu Kush mountain ranges were visible all around us, everyday. We also saw stunning rivers, lakes, and glaciers. Be forewarned. The delicious rotis, stuffed parathas, biryanis, karahis, tikkas and mantus are hard to resist. Everyone we encountered on our travels were welcoming and friendly. Not least our guides Sultan and Nawaz, who made us feel welcome from the moment we met them at Islamabad airport, and who opened their homes to us for meals with their families. They were happy to answer our questions and eager to educate us about the region. We learned about nomadic gold and gemstone miners, the autonomous, self-governing nature of Gilgit-Baltistan, and the significant work being done by the Aga Khan Foundation in the areas of rural development, education, health and climate resilience. To fully enjoy and appreciate all that Crossroads Adventure includes in their itinerary, a moderate level of physical fitness helps. There are steep climbs to some of the forts, lakes and glaciers. The views at the end of the hikes are well worth the effort. I think there is only one feedback question a service provider need ask its clients: Would you recommend our service to friends and family? For Crossroads Adventure, my answer is an unequivocal and unqualified “Yes."

One of our friends had an earlier trip with Crissroads Tour and he rounded plus all and got Crissroads to organise the trip in Pakistan.
