One of the best tourist experiences of my life. Will highly recommend Crossroads adventure for discovering Pakistan’s northern gems. Our tour was well planned and executed from travel, boarding and lodging. Our guide Hassan was patient, warm, friendly and kind. We explored many attractions in Gilgit-Baltistan. We did not have to worry about anything as our trip was carefully planned and comprehensive. It was a new terrain for us and our tour was comprehensive, well organized and executed from start to finish. We were guided at each step and enjoyed our trip worry free knowing that our professional team had taken care of everything. In addition, whenever some changes were mandated they were accommodated promptly and smoothly. Can’t wait to return for the next Pakistani adventure with our fabulous new friends at Crossroads.

We started the journey as clients/guides, we parted as firm friends. I was part of a group of intrepid travellers – mainly folks in their 60s and 70s who spend a major part of their lives seeking adventure, insightful experiences, and a deeper understanding of the world around us. We are all impressed with the way the tour was managed. Beware though, that internet and mobile services are spotty and intermittent. As a seasoned corporate road warrior I had the delusion that I could still carry on my work during the tour, and it was with a significant amount of secret relief and a little glee that I soon gave up all attempts, and became fully present in the moment in that place, gawking at the raw, majestic beauty of Gilgit-Baltistan. Amidst peaks, valleys, and glaciers; after hikes and road journeys; we shared meals, discussed our passions, debated politics and philosophy - deep, meaningful conversations with curious, kindred spirits. We are already planning a future trip together. Sure, your ultimate experience will depend on your own mindset and who you are with, but Crossroads Adventures made it all possible.

Without much assumptions on how our trip will be, my first impression was it was madeup of much rocks, stones and lumber. And this continued throughout our journey North from Islamabad to the Khunjerab Pass. Along the way, there are stunning views of intimidating rocky mountains and deep blue rivers running in the gorges at the same time. Roads can be pretty rough, but our driver was a veteran and very skillful and meandered the stony paths that were not too far from the edges of the cliffs. Sultan and Nawas of CrossRoads Adventure were both very competent and professional in leading us throughout our almost two weeks expedition. They took care very well of our daily needs, understood our requirements, standing on their toes and spared no effort to make us comfortable. An instance was when there was a protest on the road, and our van was held back and not allowed to cross, they managed to get another van from the other side to take us to our hotel. I understood later, that others in the same predicament, waited till midnight to get through that blockade. We could then see how far reaching their allies are. The Apricot blossoms were just starting and we could seek them all the way North and backdown again. I can see the life is quite hard and many mine for minerals for I dont know how much. They have their own ecosystem of digging, feeding, transportation and sales. And I must say, they have beautiful raw gems. Grab them early before the Chinese get them. Hotels we stayed are adequate, the downsides are mostly the heater problems and no hotwater comes out. Other times expect to have brown outs some parts of the day and nights. So manage your showers and charging right. The best one was the Eagles Nest at Hunza, surrounded by the majestic mountains and the tranquil Hunza valley lying below. Some pretty good shops were nearby and some skilful negotiations need to be practised to get your desired price. Food was distinctively Pakistani with lots of bread and rice, with Chicken or Mutton as the main meats. No seafood that I remember. Also note to self : Skip the beans even if they are delicious.

This was my first visit to Pakistan. Friends told me to expect amazing sights and views, excellent food, and friendly people. Crossroads Adventure delivered all of these, and more, during our tour of Gilgit-Baltistan. The sights included historical landmarks, the border crossing at Khunjerab Pass, and the unexpected bonus of ubiquitous brightly decorated trucks, covered in elaborate floral patterns and calligraphy. The views of the snow-capped Karakoram, Himalayas and Hindu Kush mountain ranges were visible all around us, everyday. We also saw stunning rivers, lakes, and glaciers. Be forewarned. The delicious rotis, stuffed parathas, biryanis, karahis, tikkas and mantus are hard to resist. Everyone we encountered on our travels were welcoming and friendly. Not least our guides Sultan and Nawaz, who made us feel welcome from the moment we met them at Islamabad airport, and who opened their homes to us for meals with their families. They were happy to answer our questions and eager to educate us about the region. We learned about nomadic gold and gemstone miners, the autonomous, self-governing nature of Gilgit-Baltistan, and the significant work being done by the Aga Khan Foundation in the areas of rural development, education, health and climate resilience. To fully enjoy and appreciate all that Crossroads Adventure includes in their itinerary, a moderate level of physical fitness helps. There are steep climbs to some of the forts, lakes and glaciers. The views at the end of the hikes are well worth the effort. I think there is only one feedback question a service provider need ask its clients: Would you recommend our service to friends and family? For Crossroads Adventure, my answer is an unequivocal and unqualified “Yes."

One of our friends had an earlier trip with Crissroads Tour and he rounded plus all and got Crissroads to organise the trip in Pakistan.
