Royal Palace of Madrid
The Royal Palace of Madrid isn't just a residence; it's a place steeped in grandeur and history. Although the current kings reside elsewhere, this majestic palace remains the setting for important state ceremonies and solemn occasions, making it come alive with its significance. Let's dive into its story now. While Juvarra's original vision didn't materialize, the Royal Palace stands proud as Europe's largest inhabited palace. The Spanish Royal Family might not call it home, but it still holds their official residence. Construction lasted until 1764, and when Carlos III finally inhabited it, the palace boasted a staggering 135,000 square meters, 3,418 rooms, 870 windows, 240 balconies, and an impressive 44 staircases. It's more than just facts and figures; this palace holds tales of splendor and tradition, making every step within its walls an encounter with the essence of Spanish history.

This tour was absolutely breathtaking from start to finish. Our guide, Enrique, was incredible—warm, engaging, and genuinely invested in making sure everyone was having a great experience. He’s the kind of guide you instantly trust… and honestly, the kind of guy you’d grab a beer with afterward. His English was flawless, and the Bluetooth headphones made it easy to catch every detail without missing a beat. Over two hours, the tour delivers an impressive wealth of knowledge, yet the time somehow flies by. I walked away completely satisfied but already wanting more. The palace itself is simply stunning—an unforgettable display of beauty and history that makes you feel lucky just to stand inside it. If you’re visiting Madrid, this tour is an absolute must. Highly, highly recommended.

Out guide Enriquez was excellent. He related many facts about the Spanish kings and queens and their families that were relevant to our Palace tour. He also shared facts about the Palace itself and its many special features. Fantastic guide!

That the tour could be a very large group. This is a problem in smaller rooms, the guide is describing the room but a large number of the group cannot see the room. By the time the last member of the group has entered the room, the guide has moved on to another room. At times guests are wandering through rooms not knowing what to view. Either smaller groups needed or guide must stop and repeat explanation to other members of the group. Although this was posted as a 2:00 pm group, did not reach Palace until 2:15 pm. Palace was closing at 4:00pm, guide had to deal with guests with backpacks, before we could start. Due to the early closure last few rooms were rushed. Knowledgeable guide, Enrique, but he was working under difficult circumstances.

Skip the queue …. made a massive difference as the queues very long. Our guide was fantastic, ex-history teacher, so really well informed, but kept the dialogue light and fun. The Place was extremely grand, full of fantastic art, and furnishings. I can highly recommend this tour.

I think Beatrice was our guide. The ex history teacher. I don’t think we paid much more than the general entrance fee and it was definitely worth it. No hanging around in a freezing cold queue. Straight in. Now on to the tour. Beatrice made it every interesting and added context to everything we were looking at. I would always pay a bit more for a guide just so I know what I’m looking at and the history of it, which I didn’t have a clue. To end, if you’re thinking of a tour of the Palace, don’t just turn up, pay that little bit extra for a guide. Beatrice didn’t disappoint. Thanks for a great tour.

The Royal Palace tour was fantastic! Enrique did a great job of covering a ton of Spanish history in a very short period of time. His commentary was hilarious at times too. Absolutely loved it!

Great Tour, Highly Recommend!! Maria was so gracious and expertly navigated our large group. The equipment she provided helped us hear every word she said. She invited questions and there wasn’t one she couldn’t answer for us. Her directions were precise and expedited our movement. It was approximately 90 minutes long. Maria had helpful tips for photographers. One of very favorite tours.
