Royal Palace of Madrid
The Royal Palace of Madrid isn't just a residence; it's a place steeped in grandeur and history. Although the current kings reside elsewhere, this majestic palace remains the setting for important state ceremonies and solemn occasions, making it come alive with its significance. Let's dive into its story now. While Juvarra's original vision didn't materialize, the Royal Palace stands proud as Europe's largest inhabited palace. The Spanish Royal Family might not call it home, but it still holds their official residence. Construction lasted until 1764, and when Carlos III finally inhabited it, the palace boasted a staggering 135,000 square meters, 3,418 rooms, 870 windows, 240 balconies, and an impressive 44 staircases. It's more than just facts and figures; this palace holds tales of splendor and tradition, making every step within its walls an encounter with the essence of Spanish history.

Our guide presented a thorough tour and was a wealth of knowledge. As she is petite, a flag of some sort would have made it easier to keep track of her. Enjoyed the tour!

A guided tour is a must, as the lines for personal entrance were quite long. There are so many rooms and such fascinating history that could not be described in the guidebooks. Our tour guide included personal anecdotes and images of the royal family that made the tour feel more intimate, and she knew her topic well. You meet at a gift shop a few minutes away from the palace which could confuse some.

Jose (?) was very knowledgeable and engaging, so we learned a lot of interesting facts about not only the palace, but also Spain's history and rulers. It's a fairly big tour group which is understandable given the price. The headphones worked well. Complaints about getting seperated are a bit silly given all the small rooms and corridors it's bound to happen a little at times. You don't truly get separated though.

Loved the tour guide, but I’m not a big fan of Spanish Royalty. I only did the tour because it was too hot to do anything else.
