Royal Palace of Madrid
The Royal Palace of Madrid isn't just a residence; it's a place steeped in grandeur and history. Although the current kings reside elsewhere, this majestic palace remains the setting for important state ceremonies and solemn occasions, making it come alive with its significance. Let's dive into its story now. While Juvarra's original vision didn't materialize, the Royal Palace stands proud as Europe's largest inhabited palace. The Spanish Royal Family might not call it home, but it still holds their official residence. Construction lasted until 1764, and when Carlos III finally inhabited it, the palace boasted a staggering 135,000 square meters, 3,418 rooms, 870 windows, 240 balconies, and an impressive 44 staircases. It's more than just facts and figures; this palace holds tales of splendor and tradition, making every step within its walls an encounter with the essence of Spanish history.

Laura, our guide, was extremely informative and friendly giving plenty of interesting snippets and insight into the palace’s history and its occupants. Unfortunately though there is so much to see and read that I would have liked more time than our 90 mins slot.

This was a really good tour. Our guide was enthusiastic and made the history of the palace much more relatable and put it into good context. She pointed out things we never wood have noticed going through on our own.

The tour of the Royal Palace in Madrid was a bit underwhelming. The palace itself is beautiful, but the guided tour didn’t really add much to the experience. It was mostly just a stream of dry facts, without any interesting stories or anecdotes to make it engaging. We were expecting something a bit more lively or insightful, but it felt pretty flat the whole time. Looking back, I think the audioguide would’ve been more than enough and probably better since you can go at your own pace.

We had an excellent tour of the Royal Palace with Jose. He was great, very engaging and his detailed knowledge of both the history of the Palace and every room was amazing.

Juan was a wonderful tour guide who was well-spoken and thorough. I loved that beyond the history, he also shared information about the artistic styles of the palace. I would recommend this tour for anyone of any age.

Our guide today for the Royal Palace was Nerea Mata. She is friendly, very knowledgeable and kept us on a good schedule. We appreciated the use of the Bluetooth-like earpieces rather than the megaphone of other guides or no equipment at all.
