On this unforgettable bioluminescence kayak tour, you’ll glide through the calm, protected waters of the Indian River Lagoon or Mosquito Lagoon under a blanket of stars. As your paddle gently dips into the water, every stroke creates a swirl of glowing blue-green light, thanks to millions of microscopic organisms called dinoflagellates. The effect is pure magic—like kayaking through liquid stardust. It’s a peaceful, immersive experience that brings out the wonder of nature in a way few activities can. Before launch, your guide will provide a brief, easy-to-follow kayaking lesson to ensure everyone feels confident and comfortable on the water—even if it’s your first time. Throughout the tour, your experienced guide will lead the small group at a relaxed pace, pointing out glowing fish trails, darting shrimp, and possibly even dolphins or manatees stirring up bursts of bioluminescence. Tours are timed for peak conditions and always launch from the area with the best glow each evening. No experience is necessary, and all gear is provided—just bring your sense of adventure and curiosity.

Astrid was an excellent guide. This experience was a remarkable observation of nature. Well worth the price for me and my 8 year old. I was nervous about being in the water at night but it was so peaceful and I felt safe. My son had a blast swimming in the amazing phenomenon. 4 in our party and we had a great time.

This was an amazing adventure! Venture Outdoors is simply the best kayak excursion operator in central Florida. This was our second experience with Astrid and her team and it was so much fun. There were people on the tour with little or no previous kayak experience as well as some families with children. Everyone was able to keep up and enjoy a great night on the water. The bioluminescence was beautiful and we had the opportunity to put in on a small island and play in the water and make glowing bioluminescence angels. I recommend this for anyone looking for a unique and fun experience. Astrid puts safety at the forefront and it was so peaceful being on the water at night. She truly loves sharing her passion for kayaking along with her knowledge of the environment. Five star experience all the way!

Our family had a fantastic time on this tour. Our guide, Astrid, was exceptional—engaging, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about what she does. She placed a strong emphasis on safety, which we really appreciated, especially with two kids (ages 10 and 13) in tow. Astrid took the time to answer all of our questions and made sure everyone was having fun throughout the experience. The bioluminescence was absolutely magical—an unforgettable highlight of our trip that we’ll cherish for years to come!

The activity exceeded our expectations, on top watching the bioluminescence (plankton and jelly) we were amazed by dolphins, an stunning sunset, and a sky full of stars. On top, we were guided to the beach at the end of the tour, which was super close! Worth to mention that Astrid was great, she went far and beyond to make sure we enjoyed the whole activity. She even brought snacks and water for us, which we really appreciated!!

What an amazing adventure. Just being out on the lagoon with Astrid, our excellent guide, with not another soul in sight would have made this worthwhile. Catching cone jellies and seeing the blue luminescent glow on our paddles, hands and trailing the fish around us was incredible. If you love nature and unique phenomena, you MUST take this tour.

We went on a Thursday night 10pm tour with Astrid. Since we were the only ones on the tour that night, we were able to go at our own pace. Astrid was extremely knowledgeable about the creatures that create the bioluminescence. What we saw on this tour was amazing to say the least. The lagoon was incredibly shallow, so there’s no need to fear deep waters. We saw mullet fish swimming and jumping out of the water, creating a blue glow around them wherever they went. We even caught a bunch of comb jellies in our net, and were able to hold them and see the blue light that they emit. This is an experience unlike any other, and is definitely worth it!

Very fun! Had Nigel as a guide and he was very knowledgeable about local wildlife. Better to go later at night, we went during sunset which was beautiful as well. The darker it is, the brighter the phytoplankton. Was very visible to the eye but not bright enough for an average phone camera. Saw dolphins, manatees, and the outline of something that looked exactly like a pangolin. Glowing water paddle strokes, hand splashes and nets.
