Unspoilt nature at the foot of the Alps!
We’ll start today’s fairytale at Lake Bohinj, the largest natural lake of glacial origin in Slovenia. Maybe Bohinj lacks Bled’s glamour, but it’s less crowded and in many ways more authentic. We are going to follow the main tributary river Savica, through unspoilt forests of NP Triglav, taking us up to magical Waterfall Savica, very unique one among world waterfalls – its watercourse is divided into two parts in the hidden undergrounds. The famous A-shaped waterfall normally comes into sight at an altitude of 836 m and is 78 m high.

Lake Bohinj
Bohinj and surrounding area are known as one of the most interesting Slovenian regions as far as ethnology and natural protected area is concerned. We’ll pass the picturesque villages along Sava River passing by many Toplar hayracks, spotting bee hives as region is famous for its beekeepers and local honey production. Short stop at lake Bohinj , nested in the heart of the Julian Alps, this jewel is a precious natural resource and at the same time offers endless opportunities for outdoor activities. More than a third of the water flows into the lake from the Karst springs under the lake surface along the northern shore. During heavy rainfall, the Karst waters gush out as the Govic spring on the Pršivec hillside.

It was not our first time in this beautiful lake. We had already been in 2007 and 2008. Lake Bohinj, for us, has always been synonymous with peace and quiet. This time, however, it was not quite so. Unlike previous times we have seen that you pay for everything, any natural, cultural and religious Attraction. Fortunately our hotel had parking otherwise the car cost us the same as the stay. I understand that things must be kept neat and clean but it seemed a bit exaggerated. However, we will be back.

Milo was a wonderful driver/guide/hiker. Milo was so informative and interesting to speak with. We actually spent two tours with him and we were happy to see him again for the second one. He was able to tailor this tour to our interests which was really nice. We stopped by Lake Bohinj which is absolutely beautiful and was able to take all the photos we wanted and did a short stop to Lake Bled (because we had another tour to that later) and then took a nice hike to the waterfall. Milo was patient and in better shape than the rest of us (he did that hike without even getting winded) and waited as we did photos and got a little drink as we all chatted. He gave us so much info on the things we were seeing. It was such a pleasure to take this tour with this guide. Would definitely recommend this tour
