Legend of Manakamana Temple, where the Manakamana Goddess dates back to the reign of the Gorkha king Ram Shah during the 17th century. It is believed that his queen possessed divine powers, which only her devotee Lakhan Thapa knew about. One day, the king witnessed his queen in Goddess incarnation, and Lakhan Thapa in the form of a lion. Upon mentioning the revelation to his queen, a mysterious death befell the king. As per the custom of that time, the queen committed SATI (ritual immolation) on her husband’s funeral pyre.

The service is from kurintar, just to Manakamana temple. The cable car rides over the distance of 2.8 kilometers in 10 minutes about. The cable car usually operates during the daytime from 9 am to 5 pm and stops during lunch break from 12 noon to half past one.

Manakamana by cable car: The service is from kurintar, just to Manakamana temple. The cable car rides over the distance of 2.8 kilometers in 10 minutes about. In earlier times, the only way to reach the Manakamana temple was by a long strenuous trek for about 3 to 4 hours. Now with cable car, mostly peoples are travelling by cable car both way. Itinerary : Early morning we will Drive to KURINTAR FROM KATHMANDU. It is about 4 hours from KATHMANDU . Reach at KURINTAR cable car station and ride to MANAKAMANA TEMPLE for a short visit and back. We will have few hours to see around and mean time we will go to temple to worship. Later, we will take Cable car again to go down.Once we reach down, Driver will collect us and we drive to Kathmandu. Stay overnight at Hotel.

Despite massive road works underway along the road to Manakamana, Tulsi and Lama ensured that I had a successful and relaxed day tour. They arrived on time for pickup and dropped off at the expected time. It was an enjoyable day trip.

What a brilliant day! Our driver was excellent and Deepak, our guide, gentle, knowledgeable, and great company. The road is an education in itself, such a small bumpy strand keeping so much of Kathmandu fed, fueled and generally supplied in addition to transporting folk to and from India. The cable car trip is very impressive and the temple at the top fascinating and very actively in use. Unrushed agenda allowing time for breaks and soaking up views and the whole experience.
