Mardi Himal Trek is located eastward of the classic Annapurna Base Camp which was officially opened in 2012 for all. This trek is a hidden gem spectacularly situated at the base of Mardi Himal and the impressive Machhapuchhre.
The richly diverse terrains of Mardi Himal take us across the densely forested areas leading to the high rocky mountain trails. The trail goes along small winding paths, through magical rhododendron forests until we climb out of the forest at an elevation around 3,300 m. The landscape changes quite abruptly into a rugged high mountain landscape, with amazing views of Mardi Himal, Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South and Hiunchuli.

Drive half an hour Banskot in Pokhara-Baglung highway and commence the trek at Banskot (1100m.). After an hour climb, we arrive at the beautiful hamlet of Kalikasthan (1600m.) from where we will have beautiful views of mountains and the surrounding villages and then descend to Hemjakot (1500m.). Hemjakot is a beautiful village lying in the north just 19.5 km away from Pokhara. We then take a trail to Dhampus (1170m.)- a small Gurung village, descending with breathtaking mountain views and experiencing the local rural culture. After having lunch at Dhampus, continue ascending to another beautiful hamlet of Australian Camp at the altitude of 2100m. The trails from Australian Camp are pleasant, easy and gradual ascending to Deurali (2142m.) Via Pothana. Deurali itself is a viewpoint which provides a scenic view of Fewa Lake on the right and beautiful mountains on the right.

Wake up early today to view the beautiful sunrise and mountain views. After breakfast, walk along the forest. The path between Deurali and forest camp (2550m.) doesn’t have any tea houses. Along the path, we will see the majestic Mt. Fishtail and Mardi Himal which is right in front of you while passing through the grassland. As we climb higher into the mountains we start getting a better view of the valleys in the lower region. We will also walk through forests filled with rhododendron flowers. In this trail, many rare animals can be seen such as Himalayan Thar, Spotted Deer, Snow Leopard, etc. After the long journey through the forest, we will reach Forest camp where we will have our lunch and then continue walking another hour to Rest Camp for the night stops.

The trail from Rest Camp gently ascends approx. 2 hours to Low Camp ( 2990m.) then another hour to Badaldanda. Badaldanda is a nice place to have the beautiful mountain views. The trails from Badaldanda are quite easy to climb on so we won’t face many difficulties. Leaving the Badaldanda behind, we will walk along the ridge of the Mardi Himal. We can view the beautiful mountains including Mardi Himal and Machhapuchhre on the way. Climbing through the rhododendron forest for an hour and a half we will enter the middle camp. As we head forward, the tree line gets vague which is covered with rhododendron bushes. Daphne, the national bird of Nepal, is usually seen on the way to High camp. Our trek might get more interesting if we get a chance to see the bird.

Wake up early today and start hiking for about 4 hours to Mardi Base Camp. Mardi Base camp is situated at an altitude of 4500m which is the highest point of this trek. The distance that we will cover today is a bit more difficult than previous days. We will be ascending to a higher altitude. The walk is longer compared to other days and the path also gets rocky and uneven at some point. When we reach the top of the Base camp, we will be astounded by the snow-capped mountains and natural vegetation. We also get the amazing view of many mountains such as Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhre, Mardi, etc. After exploring the base camp and making long-lasted memories we will retrace back to Badaldanda.

Badaldanda is itself a viewpoint from where we can see beautiful mountains and landscapes. After breakfast, we retrace back on the same route gradually descending to Low camp. The trail from Low Camp diverts to the east through the forest steep descending to Siding. The trail is unique and different from the earlier one. Kalimati situated at an altitude of 1700m is a small beautiful ridge from where we can also see the beautiful mountain views, farm lands and the valley. We will have our lunch here and walk down to Lumre for an hour then drive an hour to Pokhara. We had contacted this agency a few months before our trip: the person in charge, m. Dambar Bahadur KC, was very responsive during our exchanges, precise in his answers and we were able to adapt the proposed formula For the trek, the equipment loaned by the agency, walking sticks and sleeping bag, was well adapted During the trek, Anil our guide and Shiva our porter were very attentive to us. They were friendly with a very good understanding between them, always smiling and good mood. During the different stages, they offered us several breaks, to rest, drink, lunch; the pace of the walk was adapted to our pace; the nights in the guest house were most often in quieter accommodation, less frequented by groups. We had a very good experience with them, and with SISNR

Sisne Rover Trekking and especially my friend Prince Dila Ram are certainly one of the best decisions I made on my trip to Nepal. They support you with everything you need to make trekking a great experience. Your knowledge, help and attention are a great treasure. I am very happy to have had your support, excellent guide and adventure partner. Their prices are very good. And if you need something for trekking they support you with a list and good prices with nearby supply businesses. Highly recommended.

In summary, this a fantastic short trek with lovely village stops and great views of the valley and Annapurna range. A lovely, quiet and easy escape from Pokhara. The agency and guide was professional and reasonably priced, and got me on my feet instantly. I wanted to travel solo but not alone and Sisne was very accommodating. I walked into Sisne Rover looking for a guide to take me along the Mardi Himal route. Hira in the office arranged the whole thing for next-day departure in about 15 minutes. I also met my guide, Milan, who expediently sorted out the ACAP permit. I was all set! Milan was a superb and knowledgeable companion and will sort you out with whatever you need. I arrived as a guest and left as a friend. I wanted to do the trek solo at my own pace. Milan was great company. Our conversations were light and friendly and I learned a lot about the region. He also gave space when I desired it. The choices for overnight stays were very good and I met up with a number of other trekkers even as we headed into the quiet season. I highly recommend Milan and would hope to have him on another trek in the future. As for the trek itself, we started at Baskot and meandered steeply to the ridge which begins to carry us to Mardi Himal. On day one we pass temples and through quaint villages. The remainder of the trek takes you through beautiful dense forests before you reach Low Camp, where the Annapurna range and Machhapuchhre reveals itself in all its glory (weather permitting, which it did not for me, pray to Shiva). There are super vistas all along the route from High Camp to the lookouts given the steep ridge you follow to get there. The tea houses and lodges are very reasonable with only the High Camp stop offering the most basic facilities. The trails were very lightly trafficked when I was there in late May. I packed a 22L day pack which was just sufficient for the 4 nights - 1 day wear, 1 thermal layer for nights, 1 fleece. I didn’t pack shorts, which was a mistake in the warmer Month of May. The trek could probably be done in three nights if you’re in pretty good shape.

My life’s dream of trekking the Himalayas was VERY important to me so I am very grateful to an old friend for his recommendation. I chose the Mardi Himal trek and my designated guide/porter, Krishna, was strong, patient, knowledgeable, and good company. He obviously had the respect of the trekking community along the way. He did not take my passion for the trek lightly and did everything he could keep me safe and comfortable. I have no hesitation in recommending Sisne Rover.

I gave Sisne Rover a go because of the excellent online reviews and I have to say, we were not disappointed! Dambar was extremely responsive during the booking process fielding all my questions (which were quite numerous) and then on the trip our guide Dilaram Poudel, along with his team of Krishna, Lal and Bopinder couldn't have looked after us better. Dilaram helped us out from dawn til dusk and was full of facts about the trek and surrounding mountains. They were all constantly cheerful. Krishna made great friends with our 9 year old and Lal even ran back up to the Mardi viewpoint when we stupidly left a knapsack behind! It was an unforgettable experience for our 4 kids aged 9-19. Thanks so much Dilaram, Dambar and Sisne Rover!

I found Sisne Rover Trekking via a Google search. The reviews were very good and I have to say that is exactly how we found them. Dambar was extremely responsive on the email answering all my questions in advance and then on the trip our guide, Dilaram Poudel and his team of Krishna, Lal and Bopinder really looked after us. Dilaram couldn't have done more to help us from dawn til dusk and knew all about the route and the surrounding mountains. All the guys had a smile on their faces all day long. Krishna made special friends with our 9 year old son Hal and Lal even ran back up a mountain when we left a bag!! We trekked round the Poon Hill circuit and then joined to the Mardi Himal trek for 7 days. It was an unforgettable experience for our 4 children aged 9 to 19. Thanks so much Dilaram, Dambar and Sisne Rover!
