Discover the charm of Marsaxlokk, a picturesque fishing village along Malta’s coastline. The largest fishing harbour in Malta since antiquity, it is home to many of the islands' fishermen. Traditional "luzzus" (brightly coloured fishing boats) and larger vessels line the sheltered harbour in a colourful display that has been the subject of countless photoshoots.
Marsaxlokk is also known for its open-air market, offering a variety of goods like fresh fish, honey, fruit jams, sweets, local wines, souvenirs, crafts, clothing, shoes, and more. It’s the perfect place to spend a Sunday, stroll through the village, and experience the local way of life.
After the market, enjoy a delicious lunch at one of the many restaurants along the promenade with beautiful sea views.

We left Meliaha by bus to MARSAXLOKK via Valetta. The journey is a bit long but easy to go and back. Little waiting at the Valetta bus station. The small port is very nice and the market is great for souvenir shopping. On the other hand, we took a boat tour in the port at the low price of 5 euros per person. Many fishermen propose it. Honestly, I'm not interested.

We didn't get the tour that we booked. Having booked the Marsaxlokk Fishing Village and Market roundtrip transportation, which would give us 3 hours to enjoy in Marsaxlokk, what we actually got was transport which stopped at the Blue Grotto for about 45 minutes, then another little village for 30 minutes, leaving just an hour in Marsaxlokk when we eventually got there. Just enough time to look around a fraction of the market and no time to eat. Had we booked a Blue Grotto tour then our rating would be higher, but we didn't!

The transfer from our hotel to the village and market was faultless, bang on time. Same goes for the return journey. It was an extremely hot day with a welcome break at lunchtime for a cold drink and an excellent fresh tuna steak char grilled to perfection. On the market we purchased all the gifts we wanted for family and friends all at reasonable prices.
