Have you already seen the Archaeological Museum of Naples and think you have seen everything? Nothing more wrong.
The archaeological museum MarTa of Taranto will amaze you and leave you breathless by the beauty of the precious artifacts displayed in a large exhibition dedicated to the Apulian Greece-Roman artefacts arranged according to the type of materials: marble sculptures, monumental tombs, soft stone sculptures , pottery of the necropolis, goldsmiths.
The guided tour will take you to visit the rooms dedicated to marble sculptures, another room with sculptures, mosaics and epigraphs from public and private buildings.
Following will visit the rooms dedicated to the pottery from the necropolis. The diamond point of the museum are the so-called Ori of Taranto (Golds of Taranto) which, in reality, are almost all of Canosa di Puglia town.
The tour ends with a visit to the mosaics of the baths and villas of the Roman patricians, terracotta tools and the numismatic collection.

Beautiful objects are displayed throughout the rooms both in daily life and in festive life. Beautiful ornaments, jewelry. It really deserves to be addressed. With children, target rooms, objects because this museum is large, vast. Very well maintained, clear site

Very rich museum. The collections are well highlighted in superb display cases. The visit is a bit spoiled by the multitude of extremely noisy school groups whose guides only know how to yell their explanations... when you have the audio guide, it is difficult to hear. It is still a visit to do....maybe during the Italian school holidays.

I can't wait to be able to go back with my older son and listen to his questions. I've always enjoyed this museum...

A truly beautiful and interesting museum, the building has been completely renovated so inside and modern the highlights are: the Golds of Taranto, the Tomb of the Athlete, the Venuses of Parabita, the Zeus of Ugento and much more. A compliment also to the Guide very prepared.

One of the best museums we have ever been to, this includes The British Museum in London, every item is very well displayed and the artefacts are almost perfect condition after 3000 years!

Very nice collection, interesting. Many Roman and Greek exhibits. Better and more detailed explanations at the exhibits would be good. Duration around 1-2 hours, well done in the midday heat, as nice and cool inside.

In my opinion one of the most beautiful museums we have in Italy. We took audio guide having a small child and not being able to do guided tour, but it is very intuitive to use and our older daughter was able to follow everything. Very nice also the interactive stations

I highly recommend visiting this museum with guide, Michele, who has such great knowledge and passion for the history. Michele had me in awe and had me excited learning about Roman history, the displayed artifacts, Taranto, Italy, Puglia region, etc. He interpreted information to me in English and I was very thankful. Make sure to give yourself plenty of time to soak it all in. This is an incredible museum and not to be missed when in Puglia! Enjoy!

The beautifully decorated (and completely renovated since a previous visit) museum is very proud of its latest acquisition: a group of statues of Orpheus and two Sirens. They were sold in pieces as looted art to the Paul Getty Museum in L.A., but have been back in Italy since April 2023.
