The Reserve covers 1,510 sq km (580 sq miles) and raises 1,500-2,170 meters above sea level. The Masai Mara ecosystem holds one of the highest lion densities in the world and this is where over two million wildebeest, zebra and Thompson gazelle migrate annually. The wildlife of the Masai Mara is world-renowned, with the so-called “Big Five”- buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion and rhinoceros – evident throughout the year. The “Big Nine” – including cheetah, zebra, giraffe and hippo – extends this experience.

I got more than i expected and then the expectations rose. I am thoroughly happy with all the sightings. The guide cum driver knew the terrain so well and spotted the best sightings. Ashnil Mara Camp stay was also wonderful with Hippos in the river for company. They had Indian cuisine too which is thoughtful. 3 cheers for Nature Explorers team that made all.the arrangements, gave us all the useful information and were available at all times. However, please avoid recommending Giraffe Centre at Nairobi. Total waste of time. Please suggest other options. Thank you, NEI team.
