Pointe du Hoc
In World War II, Pointe du Hoc was the location of a series of German bunkers and machine gun posts. Prior to the invasion of Normandy, the German army fortified the area with concrete casemates and gun pits. On D-Day, the United States Army Provisional Ranger Group attacked and captured Pointe du Hoc after scaling the cliffs. United States generals including Dwight D. Eisenhower had determined that the place housed artillery that could slow down nearby beach attacks. (Wikipedia)

We purchased tickets online ahead of our visit and it worked out fine and saved us time getting into the museum . We also purchased the audio tour with our tickets which downloaded to our smart phones. Operation of the audi-tour was a little clunky- but we got the hang of it after a while. Be sure to bring earbuds if doing the downloadable tour. There is a big free parking lot at the museum. There are also small lockers at this museum which are free and big enough for a small backpack or a few jackets. The museum has a lot of info on WW2 that is very well presented. If you enjoy reading detail and listening to interesting films then plan for a long day. We spent 5 hours here and feel like we ran out of time and had to skim through some sections like the Cold War ear - which was also informative. There is a very good but somber section dedicated to the holocaust which is very well done. It’s a sad exhibit but very important to remember this horrible period of human history to insure it never happens again.

An exciting tour that takes us into a terrible past (not so far away from that in the end) , a tour of history as it was (and which is unfortunately increasingly forgotten ). The exhibitions , the films , the objects presented , the sets , the Mood recount with excellence and strength that terrible era of the Second World War . Moving and unforgettable visit. The place is well designed ....do not be surprised by the austere appearance of the building! Possibility of perfectly correct catering , shop very provided ....we are spoiled for choice! Be careful to plan a long visit because there is a lot to see and read!

Amazing tour that everyone should take it. Thinking it happened just 81 years ago, it's crazy how fast history fades. Average age of soldiers in the cemetery is 23. Our tour guys Dylan is extremely knowledgeable, and our driver is very helpful. Together they made the trip extra memorable. Thank you guys!

Ana was fantastic! Small tour of 4. She let us set the pace. We got lost all the time and she found us. The historical part of the tour is what you expect. The broader French was Interesting for an American.

Our guide Melanie was superb. Very well educated on the history of the area, the d-day invasion, and a pleasure chat with. The tour itself is exactly as advertised. Don’t skim or speed read the details of the tour, read it. I found it to be a great way to see point-du-hoc, Omaha beach, and the American cemetery, in a short amount on time. if you only have a few hours, this is a great option. If you want to linger all day, and don’t like being on a tight schedule, this isn’t for you.

Outstanding service from end to end. The staff at the museum were very friendly and helpful. I also took the full day tour of beaches and cemeteries with Oliver as a guide. He was extremely knowledgeable and personable, very respectful to the fallen and their stories. Sebastian was our driver and he did a fantastic job as well.
