Experience the beauty of the Alaskan wilderness on this 3.5-4 hour adventure to the Mendenhall Glacier. This adventure starts off at the cruise ship docks as an expert guide will transfer the guaranteed, small group on a narrated 30 minute journey to the West Glacier boat launch in the Tongass National Forest. Guests gear up in top quality waterproof gear and after a quick paddle lesson, will launch the canoe onto the Mendenhall Lake to start the journey. Surrounded by steep cliffs filled with Arctic terns, mountain goats, porcupines, and other wildlife; enjoy the serenity of this adventure deep into Alaska. Feel the cool brisk air coming off the glacier as the guide safely navigates the canoe to the best viewpoints of the blue crevasses and seracs on the toe of the Mendenhall Glacier. Be one of the few to step away from the crowds and get face to face with glacier. This Tour is canoeing only and DOES NOT INCLUDE a hike.

Traveled with my 23 and 18 yo sons. I was quite nervous because I don't swim and suffer from sudden vertigo. It was rainy and cloudy yet Jordan, our guide, made it feel like was warm and sunny. One son said, "way better than panning for gold," while the other thought humor from Jordan deserved more ba-dum-tss drums. While it is pricey for financially weary travelers, it is well spent memory. Oh, and the view is spectacular.

Ed and Issy made the excursion truly enjoyable! They are knowledgeable and love what they do. We all felt safe and secure in the canoe and the length of the outing was just right. Other feedback is for the manager/owner: some improvement in responsiveness is needed. We spent over $1,000 for 4 of us (more than twice other excursions) and were not getting responses to our inquiries (told earlier in the year there was some technical issue but clearly it was not fixed when we reached out weeks and days before the outing.) It would be a good idea to confirm with your guests a few days prior like most other companies.

If you’re looking for an unforgettable adventure in Juneau, this is it! The Mendenhall Glacier Canoe Excursion with Liquid Alaska Tours was a highlight of our entire trip to Alaska. From the moment we were picked up, our guide Rod kept us engaged with fun, insightful narration about the region’s wildlife, history, and the glacier itself. Once we arrived at the lake, we geared up and set out in a stable, multi-person canoe — and wow, what a ride! Paddling across the glacial lake, weaving around icebergs and soaking in the stunning views, felt like stepping into a postcard. Rod guided us expertly across the water, all the way to within 150 yards of the face of Mendenhall Glacier. You could see the brilliant blue color up close — absolutely breathtaking. This tour is perfect for adventurers, nature lovers, or anyone wanting to get up close to a glacier in a truly immersive way. Don’t miss this tour — and definitely request Rod if you can!

Our guide Ben E. was incredibly knowledgeable and personable. The views were incredible, though we were very lucky with the weather as it was a clear day. Be ready to be sore after working hard paddling! It was a fun team building exercise and we got to meet some other nice travelers. Would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys being in the outdoors!

Beautiful views of the glacier, mountains, and water falls. Very knowledgeable and friendly guide. Rowing is no joke. The temp gets colder near the glacier, so layers are good.
