Let me just put this out there, the scenery is absolutely stunning. It’s something you can’t really take your eyes off of. The geography and biodiversity of the area is something entirely unique and worth seeing. If that’s all your care about, then read no more. However, there are a few drawbacks. This are is VERY touristy, for good reason. But these are your very annoying type of tourists, the ones that are loud, pushy, and incessantly getting in the way to get photos and video to put on TikTok. It’s not a quiet nature get-away like one might think. The boat was very crowded as well, standing room only. And people would push past you, and I mean literally push past you, to get the good views. Milford sound is also a rainforest. They get like 9 meters of rain a year. It rains constantly. Plan accordingly. Also, Milford sound is relatively remote. Even if you get on the bus midway through at Te Arau, it’s still a 2 hour bus ride to Milford sound. They make stops along the way for pictures and a bathroom break, but expect the bus (and everything else) to be very crowded. The actual cruise is about 90ish minutes if I remember correctly, most of the day is spent getting there and back on the bus. Nothing the operator can do about that, but something to know. Ultimately, if you have the time, it’s probably worth it. The scenery is spectacular. However, as a person who loves the outdoors as a way to relax and take in nature, this just isn’t it. Head up north to Wanaka if you want that. It’s equally as scenic and has like a tenth of the tourist traffic, if that. And it’s only an hour outside Queenstown. This tour is very crowded and that was a bit disappointing to me. It didn’t ruin my experience, but it was a bit of a downer. I wouldn’t say avoid this, but I’m also not jumping up and down to recommend it either. I hope that helps.

This was an amazing one-day tour, taking us to see the amazing sights of Milford Sound, including a 1-2 hour cruise. The drive along with the way also included a few great views, with the tour making some stops for us to take photos. Baruch is an amazing tour guide, providing helpful explanations injected with humor.

Ingenious beautiful excursion, a nature experience special. Small tip, by bus from Te Anau, to the door in the port and no parking problem.

We had a great time. The travel from Te Anau to Milford Sound was long, and from Queenstown even longer so would recommend staying in Te Anau or bringing a lot of things to do on the bus ride. Getting to Milford Sound was a rewarding experience, and the 2 hour cruise was lovely. No rain on our day, but it was beautiful nonetheless. Our tour guide on the bus ride, Brian, was amazing and chirpy! Great tour and one to definitely do when on the South Island.

We took the bus from Te Anu to Milford sound and then took a cruise. On the bus ride down the driver ,Baruch, had so much information to pass on that he couldn't stop talking for the life of him . I got on the boat with a headache the view was OK, it rained and was really cloudy. All in all wasn't worth the money.t

Informative guide/bus driver. He provided a lot of information! The bus ride was long but guide provided several breaks and shared a bit of the flora, fauna, and history. Through no fault of the tour operators, the boat was very crowded! This was the Tet New Year. Had I realized it, I might have taken a smaller tour.

We had a great time. Our guide Levi made the bus journey there very enjoyable! He was so unbelievably knowledgeable and we learnt so much. Milford sound is pretty epic - I’d recommend binoculars for the wildlife. If possible I’d recommend Milford Track + Cruise and try and get a smaller boat for a more intimate experience. But if you have to do same day coach return it is still worthwhile. Charles and Rosie

RealNZ left a group of customers behind and when customer service were contacted they were either incapable or unwilling to help. The group had to drive a round trip of 600km at their own expense to take the boat trip on Milford Sounds. A driver for another travel company said RealNZ's actions were disgraceful.

Perfect experience. We’d seen Milford Sound by cruise ship but this was a great experience.! Driver Craig was an absolute pleasure! Knowledgeable, humorous and smooth.

This is such an amazing trip. The scenery on the route to Milford Sound is breathtaking and it only gets better when you arrive and take the boat ride through the Sound. We had a brilliant tour guide/driver Brandon who did a great job driving us all that way and giving us lots of background information as we went. Thanks Brandon!
