Lake Wakatipu
Lake Wakatipu is the longest lake in New Zealand and the third largest. Wakatipu is a Maori word meaning, ‘Hollow of the Demon’. The lake has an unusual rhythmic rise and fall in the water level, approximately 12cm every 5 minutes. In Maori legend this strange rhythmic rise and fall of the water level, is said to be the beating heart of a monster from the deep depths of the lake.

5.00Had a totally through fantastic trip! It was especially the wildly sweet and friendly bus driver, Richard, who made the trip so good. I became sick and sick, and Richard took a little care of me, which made the experience incredibly safe and better. In addition, he is real fun and interact with his passengers. He drove really well and we came safely back and forth. The nature experience itself was absolutely fantastic. The captain on the boat did very hard to make sure that we saw both dolphins and seals. Great recommendation from here.

4.00Wonderful experience, but a long day. On the way plenty of stops and photo opportunities with the bus driver giving us a good commentary on history etc. when we arrived we went into the boat, that was a little chaotic, but manageable, we were directed to our hot buffet lunch, which was fabulous,really delicious and plenty of it with tea and coffee. The boat trip was amazing with beautiful views, we were lucky because it was a beautiful day, although a bit chilly first thing, the trip home seemed very long, and the driver didn’t give any commentary which was not a big deal because the seats were so comfortable and I fell asleep. In conclusion a long day but really worth it.

5.00Richard doing all the bird calls hit the ball out of the park. It was more than just commentary. Also, he stopped the bus for an unplanned photo of a kea on a car roof. It was a long, exhausting trip time-wise, but his experience and knowledge made up for all this.

4.00I booked this trip for myself since I didn’t have a car. The trip overall was great and I felt like we really got to hit a few highlight spots. The bus was comfortable and our driver, Adrian, was friendly. It’s a HUGE group so it felt a bit chaotic at times. The day we went (a Monday) was crazy busy with other bus tour companies, making the experience more crowded than I would’ve liked. I hope to come back to NZ and to visit again but with my own car and spending more time in less crowded spots.
Experience not to be missed.
