A tour with the Calypso is one of the most fun on Maui! This stable, high-speed, triple-decker catamaran will get you to two snorkel sites fast: Molokini Crater and Turtle Town, and with all the equipment you need and plenty of food on board, what more could you ask for? The Calypso leaves from Ma’alaea Harbor, and after you are welcomed aboard by your friendly crew, you can take a look at the delicious continental breakfast. After everyone is settled in, it’s off to the most popular underwater destination in Maui for some Molokini snorkeling! While you are enjoying the feel of the ocean wind in your hair. Molokini Crater is located between the islands of Maui and Kaho’olawe. This beautiful site is not only home to several fish species, but many species of birds, as well! The crater is a designated Marine Life Conservation District and bird preserve, so no fishing or climbing on the crater is allowed, but wearing flippers and a mask to watch the fish is perfectly wonderful. After your Molokini snorkeling, Calypso will whisk you to Turtle Town – a second snorkeling spot. Off the south side of Maui, Turtle Town is home to several large sea turtles as well as dynamic reef fish.

The staff was great. It appeared they were all happy to be there and cared about the boat and the guests. The pulled pork was outstanding!! Snorkeling was great too, we used their masks and fins and everything was great.

Amazing staff, great food (even better than you think!), and comfortable ride. Because there was lots of space, seating types, and options available, every person in your family or party can experience the reef, the ocean, the wildlife, the food, and the people all in a unique way. They have wetsuits available day-of (you need a wetsuit...the Pacific Ocean is still frigid, even in Hawaii!) for a charge, they have sunscreen, snorkels, bathrooms, fins, noodles, life jackets...all the bells and whistles. For the price, I was very happy. We weren't able to go to the actual Molonkini Crater that day (nobody did, all the boats had to go elsewhere) because of crazy wind, so the captain and crew adjusted to whale watching, a scenic tour of the coastline, and additional time at the first snorkel site. The adaptability and flexibility were well appreciated.

The staff makes this tour amazing no matter what!!! When the plans had to change due to Hawaiis unpredictable weather we were able to go whale watching and do some site seeing around island! The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time! Also plants of drinks, breakfast snacks and yummy lunch!!!

Very crowded. They cancelled the trip to the crater because of bad conditions (wind) We had a chance to snorkel but the waves and wind made it useless.

The weather was not cooperating and we only made it to one spot. The crew did there best and the boat trip was very relaxing. The captain opened up the bar to compensate one can never complain about that. Well done given mother nature

So bummed we didn’t go to the Crater or even try turtle town. For what we paid we were super disappointed. I understand that weather is not something they can control but we didn’t even try to attempt either spot that was on the tour. Instead we went to an area that was just ok, saw about 10 fish and no turtles. Water was freezing. Staff were great but just super disappointed for what we paid which was close to $800. I wish they would have canceled and just told us that the conditions were not good to snorkel instead of taking our money and then just driving around the island. Based on this experience I would not go on this tour again. Also when we got back we went to a restaurant and I was listening to a tour that was literally heading out to the crater and turtle town that minute. I don’t understand how one excursion can go out but another can’t. My kids were bummed and so were we. We left disappointed and unfortunately we couldn’t ask for another tour another day because we leave tomorrow. Like I said staff was great but I don’t like how the tour was handled bad weather or not. We talked to a lot of families that were super upset and felt like it should have been canceled rather than take our money.

Ten out of ten on almost every aspect. The crew was amazing - so friendly but also safe and responsible. Shout out to Erika and Camille. The food was great - lots of breakfast options including scrambled egg, sausage, pastries and fruits. Fresh coffee and juices, too. The snorkeling experience with multiple entry/exit points was awesome for going in and out of the water. The crew are lifeguards who go out to the perimeter areas on a paddleboard to watch everyone. It was just so good. We also changed our tour date twice due to weather concerns and it was easy peasy. The staff you call are so friendly and helpful. Oh and we saw whales on the way to Molokini! The boat itself is amazing with indoor and outdoor spaces. Tables for your food and drink.

The Calypso is a beautiful ship with friendly, helpful, and knowledgable crew. We thoroughly enjoyed our snorkel experience. There was even a little "snorkel class" that the captain offered to guests if you wanted more information, which was definitely helpful. One of the crew members, Eddie, even gave us wonderful recommendations for our stay in beautiful Maui (Lava Fields and La Perouse Bay). We were also able to have a whale-watching tour, in which the crew gave interesting facts to provide some insight. Advice: get there EXTRA early! There are a lot of boats at that dock and parking can get a little stressful. Regardless, this experience was 10/10.

We have been on several snorkeling boats with many crews. This crew works like a well oiled machine. Everyone seems to know their jobs and moves quickly to achieve each chore. The food was tasty and plenty. Better than others I have had on tours. I liked that the booze was not flowing freely(you paid for alcoholic drinks). Lots of families with kids on the boat. They had plenty of snorkel equipment for everyone. I have never had a wetsuit available for my use($10/rental fee). Photographer took lots of water photos of my grandson! The boat has 8 sets of stairs off back of boat which makes getting off and on boat quicker for everyone. After snorkeling the crater the captain took us whale watching and found many whales to observe. The boat is 3 layers with terrific seating options which have little individual tables for food and drink at each seat. It has a large slide in front of boat and a smaller one at the back which the kids got to go down over and over again! This excursion was undoubtedly the best of our trip! Would definitely recommend and go again!
