This stable, high-speed, triple-decker catamaran will get you to two snorkel sites fast: Molokini Crater and Turtle Town, and with all the equipment you need and plenty of food on board, what more could you ask for? The Calypso leaves from Ma’alaea Harbor, and after you are welcomed aboard by your friendly crew, you can take a look at the delicious continental breakfast. After everyone is settled in, it’s off to the most popular underwater destination in Maui for some Molokini snorkeling! While you are enjoying the feel of the ocean wind in your hair. Molokini Crater is located between the islands of Maui and Kaho’olawe. This beautiful site is not only home to several fish species, but many species of birds, as well! The crater is a designated Marine Life Conservation District and bird preserve, so no fishing or climbing on the crater is allowed, but wearing flippers and a mask to watch the fish is perfectly wonderful. After your Molokini snorkeling, Calypso will whisk you to Turtle Town – a second snorkeling spot. Off the south side of Maui, Turtle Town is home to several large sea turtles as well as dynamic reef fish.

Well organized for such a big group! A lot of tours this size are chaotic so I was a little fearful! But the calypso crew was awesome!

We had a spectacular time on our snorkeling adventure from Ma'alaea Harbor to Molokini! The crew was professional, informative, and incredibly attentive to our needs. The boat was clean and well-maintained, and we felt safe throughout the trip. The true highlight was getting to see whales up close—it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. While the water was a bit choppy near Turtle Island and Molokini, it didn't take away from a fantastic day on the water. Highly recommended!

I booked about a month before traveling. I called back the week before traveling to make sure everything was in order. I am glad I did. My phone number was wrong in their system, my email was wrong in their system, it was almost impossible for them to locate my reservation. We got it all sorted out, and so the story goes... Check in was as expected. They verify that you have signed release waivers. They take your picture before boarding so that they can sell you the pictures they take (for a hefty fee btw). We were allowed to select our own seats. We prefer to be out on the front of the boat. We found acceptable seats on the second level. Breakfast was billed as eggs, portuguese sausage, pastries and fruit with juices and coffee. The sausage was NOT portuguese but it was edible. The breakfast experience was lack luster, but adequate. My wife is a diet cola lover. Flat soft drinks are unappetizing, but that seems to be all they had. I ordered a pina colada. Worst drink ever. After leaving the harbor we came upon some whales that were SPECTACULAR! If not for the whales, I would have given a lower rating. The excursion was saved by the wild life! Our first snorkeling spot was Makena Landing. I had snorkeled this area two days prior and was one of three people exploring the reef from the shore. Few fish, tons of coral, and a fair amount of turtles are to be expected in the area and this is what we found. The downside to this snorkel experience was the huge number of snorkelers and then being corralled into a relatively small area. I spent all my time in the water trying to get away from people, after being kicked and ran into by less aware excursion goers. I really appreciated that they then made the effort to take us out to Molokini after Makena. The conditions were not ideal, but they moored the boat and let us get in the water. We were allowed access to more open water than before, which made it possible for me to get away from the frenetic crowd and thus enjoy the beauty of what Molokini has to offer. It seems as if you can see forever under the water at Molokini. Time at Molokini almost made up for the very odd/weird/disappointing Makena experience. Lunch was adequate but not excellent. Pulled pork sandwiches (with the option of a cold deli style sandwich), potato salad, chips and drinks were on the menu. I enjoyed the food, but my wife was not overly enthusiastic about it. While motoring back towards the harbor the crew brought around a frozen yogurt popsicle, which was tasty, but clearly a counterfeit to a real ice cream bar. More flat soft drinks and little to no crew interaction (other than being barked at to stay in one small area at Makena) contributed to the low score I am giving the excursion. A pet peeve of mine is being told that I need to tip and how much I should tip. This unfortunately this happened on our way back to the harbor. HEY CALYPSO STAFF, if you WOW your customers you will never have to ask for gratuity. People will tip more money just by being given an excellent customer service experience. The very average food was served buffet style. I had to go to the bar to get anything to drink (flat soft drinks, boo). I had to get up to throw my trash away. Other than being served a frozen yogurt popsicle, the only thing that was done to provide "service" was Eddie brought my wife a rental wetsuit after I went back and asked for one. I wish my review could be more positive. I was hoping to find an outstanding alternative to the other major player in excursion business coming out of Ma'alaea. I did not.

We had an amazing trip aboard the Calypso. The crew was incredible and very helpful. We had a once in a lifetime encounter with a whale. I know that the company didn’t cause this to happen, but they were very knowledgeable on the whales and educated everyone.

I had high hopes for our snorkeling trip to Molokini and I wasn't disappointed. The Calypso staff made our day so memorable from the captain to the lifeguards/boat hands, to Marley the photographer. They were all so friendly and accommodating. Marley took amazing photos. I was surprised even though we didn't tell him to focus on us how many great photos there ended up being of our family. I highly recommend buying his photos. The boat itself was as advertised. It was big and didn't feel overcrowded. One of the bathrooms was so big it felt like my bathroom at home. The platform and slide were definitely a highlight for the kids. The food they served for breakfast and lunch were all very good with lots of options. The fruit and vegetables were fresh and tasty. My family who stayed in the water longer than I did didn't feel like they got enough food, but I think that can be hard to gauge when customers have different eating timelines. Holding back on putting out some of the food for the people spending more time in the water might help solve that. We also got lucky with the weather and all the humpback whales that were around on our snorkel day. It was perfect and I lost count of all the whales we saw. We also were lucky enough to see an eagle ray swim by at Molokini and turtles at Turtle Town. I have to say the one disappointing thing we saw were people from the boat not respecting the turtles. We see this time and time again when we do activities that put us in close proximity with animals. I understand that the staff is working for tips/customer service and there is the balance between keeping the customers happy and protecting nature, but we would have liked to have seen a stronger hand with the swimmers that were encroaching on the turtles. As people that respect animals and nature it does make you sad and uncomfortable when you see people swarming around a small turtle just trying to get to the surface. We all want to see them, but respecting them and their space is more important. I would highly recommend Calypso to anyone wanting to do the Molokini snorkel trip.

This was a great experience for our entire family. We ranged in age from 8 to 73 years of age and we all participated. The kids had a great time. We all felt very safe and well looked after during the whole trip. There was plenty of room on board. The breakfast and lunch were good. The equipment was good. The staff were very helpful, knowledgeable, friendly, experienced and willing to help with anything. This is definitely a must do!

The snorkeling at Molokini does not have a huge variety of fish but has a lot of fish. The crew is very helpful with first time snorkelers. We went on January 12 2026 and the whales were amazing. Great breakfast and lunch and drinks.

These guys run a boat tour business like a well oiled machine! Keeping 80 passengers organized and treated as well as we were is no small feat. Professional, upbeat crew! They have some go-pro cameras fir you to get your own snorkeling footage and you can buy said footage for $65. For us, it was very much worth it. Fish, turtles, eels, we saw a bunch! Molokini snorkeling is hands down the best we've done. Whale watching on the ride too during mating season. Turtle town snorkeling was cool too. Food was great, several selections. Just know that alcoholic drinks are extra for $3 each but that's cheaper than any drink at home so to us it wasn't an issue. Again, these guys are awesome!!

The five hour trip had an hour of snorkeling at the island and another hour at turtle town. The staff were very helpful and made for a nice experience. The breakfast and lunch were nice along with the drinks after we finished in the water. Seeing whales coming and going was a bonus we didn't expect. They were very active.
