Explore the natural wonders of Molokini Crater, a volcanic islet 3 miles (4.8 km) off the coast of Maui, on this snorkeling tour from Maalaea. Surrounded by clear tropical waters, this extinct cone is home to many species of marine life, such as fish, sea urchins, sharks, manta rays, and coral. Molokini is a marine preserve, meaning nothing can be disturbed, keeping the island and underwater environment pristine. You'll also explore Turtle Town, and admire native birds. Two water slides, a glass bottom viewing room, and a "leap of faith" are also available if you don't want to snorkel or finish early. Breakfast, lunch, snacks, soda, and juice are included.

Wheelchair accessible. Motorized wheelchairs and electric scooters are not able to be accommodated. Manual wheelchairs are allowed up to a maximum width of 28". Personal weight restriction of approximately 280 pounds due to the ramp configuration and ability of crew to assist in boarding the wheelchair with the occupant.

What To Expect

A tour with the Calypso is one of the most fun on Maui! This stable, high-speed, triple-decker catamaran will get you to two snorkel sites fast: Molokini Crater and Turtle Town, and with all the equipment you need and plenty of food on board, what more could you ask for? The Calypso leaves from Ma’alaea Harbor, and after you are welcomed aboard by your friendly crew, you can take a look at the delicious continental breakfast. After everyone is settled in, it’s off to the most popular underwater destination in Maui for some Molokini snorkeling! While you are enjoying the feel of the ocean wind in your hair. Molokini Crater is located between the islands of Maui and Kaho’olawe. This beautiful site is not only home to several fish species, but many species of birds, as well! The crater is a designated Marine Life Conservation District and bird preserve, so no fishing or climbing on the crater is allowed, but wearing flippers and a mask to watch the fish is perfectly wonderful. After your Molokini snorkeling, Calypso will whisk you to Turtle Town – a second snorkeling spot. Off the south side of Maui, Turtle Town is home to several large sea turtles as well as dynamic reef fish.

We had a great time on this trip! Staff was very friendly and food was good! Lots of fruits and veggies and good sandwich’s, they walk around to see if you needed anything. Felt very well taken care of! Also, we stayed in Kaanapali beach and it was an easy 30 min uber drive over in the morning and back in the afternoon. We had originally booked a trip for one of the boats that goes out directly from Kaanapali beach but they cancelled on us last minute the day before because they are not always allowed to pick up at the beach say if there is slightly rougher waters. We had to switch to this one the day before but it was easy to get set up with this one and they don’t cancel last minute because the pickup at Maalaea Harbor is an actual boat docking location. Another thing to note on our specific day out on the boat it was a bit rougher waters (still pretty smooth on this big boat) so we weren’t able to go to Turtle town that day but instead they took us whale watching and we saw lots of whales! Also they offered free 3 alcoholic drinks also. Very nice and we felt we got the full experience on this trip!

My husband and I took our 2 kiddos (10 & 13) on this tour today. We had a great time in the water and on the boat. The food and drinks they served for breakfast and lunch were also excellent. The crew was all so kind. The captain was a great tour guide and cool guy. I noticed that people who were uncomfortable in the water. The crew was really great and patient and helping them in and feel comfortable. All around great experience!

Overall, I thought this was an amazing experience. The staff was extremely friendly. We were slightly disappointed. We did not see more colorful and plentiful, fish and turtles, but the calypso was amazing. The jumping off the top was great. The food was lovely and overall we had a great time.
Wasn’t the original tour we booked but ended up being a fantastic day!

We had originally booked a smaller catamaran tour on the Malolo with this same company to snorkel at Molokini and Turtle Town. We found out less than 24 hours before that our booking had been changed to the Calypso because of operation changes with the Malolo. We were skeptical at first because we enjoy a smaller boat experience with less people, but this ended up being a great day! There were more food options on the Calypso, it was nice having a table and cup holder at each seat, and they gave a great spiel about snorkeling for first timers. We are avid snorkelers but it was nice to hear their directions for our family who doesn’t travel as often as us. Upon getting in the water it did feel a little crowded at first, but we swam out closer to the life guards in the water on boards and ended up having great snorkeling over beautiful corals. Lots of tropical fish at Molokini and many turtles at our second location. Would definitely recommend this option for adults or families.

We had a great snorkeling experience—really well paced and never rushed. The crew was incredibly thoughtful and helpful throughout, making sure everyone felt comfortable in the water. We saw turtles, corals, and so much marine life. The gear was exceptional and clearly well maintained, and you could tell the crew genuinely cared about giving us the best experience possible. Highly recommend!

This company really delivers a top notch experience! We were expecting pastries and fruit for breakfast but also got scrambled eggs and sausage. Then we took off for the crater. On the way we stopped to watch a calf humpback breaching with momma close by. Staff told us much about the whales so it was informative as well. Staff was great at getting everyone’s equipment and equipped for our snorkeling. I’m so glad I got the wet suit! We had plenty of time to explore before taking off to turtle town. On the way we got to see more whales, an adult doing a head first dive! Turtle town didn’t disappoint either, I got right next to a turtle that came up to the surface then got to follow him down. Again plenty of time to see everything. They served a great lunch per my husband. I was feeling a little queasy, Kyle the bartender fixed me up with some ginger candy, water and tips to get over it. My husband didn’t snorkel but got to view through the glass bottom boat. Can’t recommend this trip enough!
