Wonderful experience with our friendly and very knowledgable guide - Alfred! It’s a 3 hour drive to Rosario but we stopped for a quick breakfast and lunch both ways. And the butterflies. Incredible experience! walking up up up through the most tranquil forest. Butterflies everywhere at this time of year! Literally millions waking up in the warm sun to fly! We could hear their tiny little wings beating. We had a lovely local guide for the forest Trail - Rita - who climbed with us. At over 10,000 feet - be prepared to be short of breath - but the forest with the beautiful butterflies cascading down through the valley - very worth it. Once in a lifetime experience! Don’t miss it.

Seeing the monarch butterflies at the Sierra Chincua and El Rosario sanctuaries was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and having Alfredo as our guide made it truly unforgettable. I learned so much new and detailed information about the butterflies, their migration, and the surrounding ecosystem~things I never would have understood without his deep knowledge. Alfredo has a gift for guiding: he made the entire tour fun, engaging, and full of wonder, while also being thoughtful and informative every step of the way. Seeing the monarchs in person was something I had dreamed of for a long time, and I felt pure joy finally experiencing it. I’m so grateful for the opportunity and genuinely feel lucky that Alfredo was our guide. He elevated an already magical experience into something truly special and meaningful. I can’t recommend this tour ~ and Alfredo~highly enough.

What a day of magic. Alfredo is a master of knowledge, and his love for the monarchs is overt. From the minute you get in his van, he begins the history of the migration and its progress throughout time. On site he walks with you and fills in details for viewing and actually hearing the butterflies when you are there. His gentle guidance and manner are so welcoming. No guide could be better for your adventure.

Alfredo is a friendly and knowledgeable tour guide who made our tour of the monarch butterflies a great day long adventure. As I’m a horse lover, we opted to ride up and they were an excellent choice for the elevation gain. We rode up a steep hillside for about 20 minutes and near the top, we dismounted. Breathing air at 9,800 feet is physiologically equivalent to breathing air with an effective oxygen level of roughly 14.4% whereas at sea level it is 21%. I figured the horses were able to cope a lot better than us. We hiked up on foot the last 20 min or so to see the butterflies coming to life, thousands fluttering down from the pine trees like giant confetti. They flew down to shallow trickles of water on the forest floor. Everyone was quiet as to hear their movements. Magical! Muchas gracias, Alfredo

this is definatley a bait and switch experience. on the advertizment it says the event lasts 9 hours and is the lowest price at 127.50$. when you book it's 159$ and notes the experice lasts 30 mins. ended up not booking.

Our tour with Alfredo was incredible! It's about a 3 hour drive each way to the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary. That may seem like torture, but not with Alfredo! His English is perfect. We talked the entire time. I asked so many questions, and Alfredo answered them in depth. Not only did we see the beautiful Monarchs, but I feel like I am now an expert in Mexican law, history, economy, and ecology! Alfredo arranged exactly what we wanted with the guides on the mountain as far as horses and walking. He provided masks for us because the trail was dusty, and he also gave me bottled water. We enjoyed a delicious lunch afterwards, and I even used some of what he taught me on the way there when I was shopping at the vendors near the sanctuary entrance. I am so glad that we chose Alfredo for this once in a lifetime experience! I wholeheartedly recommend Alfredo. You will be definitely be satisfied with his high level of service. Muchas gracias, Alfredo! 😊
