Chinggis Khan Statue Complex
We start the day at the Genghis Khan Statue Complex, located east of Ulaanbaatar. Time is spent walking around the site and, if desired, visiting the viewing platform for wide views across the surrounding steppe.
Gorkhi Terelj National Park
We reach the Cave of the Thousand Monks after a short walk through the hills near Terelj National Park. We spend a few quiet moments inside the cave before continuing on, using this stop as a calm break during the day.
Stop at Turtle Rock, one of Terelj’s most recognizable natural formations. Walk around the rock and, for those interested, take a short climb to the top for views over the valley. Time is allowed for photos and a short rest.
Aryabal Meditation Temple
Visit Aryabal Meditation Temple, reached by a gentle walk through forested hills. The temple overlooks the valley and offers a calm setting to slow down before the return journey. Most of the visit is spent walking and taking in the surroundings.

Khustain Nuruu National Park
Przewalski's horses (takhi) The Przewalski’s horse, known in Mongolia as takhi, is the last remaining wild horse species in the world. Once extinct in the wild, it was successfully reintroduced to its natural habitat at Khustai Nuruu National Park. Today, takhi move freely across the open valleys and hills, without fences or enclosures. Visitors most often see them in the early morning or late evening, when they come down to graze, offering a quiet reminder of Mongolia’s deep connection between land, wildlife, and conservation.
Khustain Nuruu National Park
Wildlife viewing Wildlife viewing is an important part of visiting Khustai Nuruu National Park. Along with takhi, visitors may see red deer moving through forested areas, marmots near open grassland, and foxes crossing valleys during quieter hours. Birds of prey, including eagles and vultures, are often visible circling above the hills. With patience and distance, the park offers regular encounters with animals living freely in their natural environment rather than staged viewing points.
