The hike down was a little steep but I’m an active 70 year old and managed it well. Our guide, James, did a great job! It was obvious that Montserrat was a meaningful place to him. He told so much about its history and on the hike was careful to point out naturally growing herbs and other plants. We saw a couple of mountain goats at a distance as well.

This was very enjoyable. The day started a little damp and misty when we started our walk down the mountain. The visitor to the basilica and listening to the choir in the cloister was very moving. James was a great guide and explained times of when and where to meet. It was an outstanding tour and to top it off it cleared enough for a photo of the monastery from our walk.

We toured Montserrat with Allen last week and what a wealth of knowledge. We learned all about the Monastery and then the topography of the area along with the wildlife. It was an enjoyable and informative day.

It’s a long day but well worth the effort. We got there early enough to be there before the crowds overwhelmed the area.

The views on Monteserrat are unbelievable. We had a nice clear day. We were supposed to take the venticular up the mountain but it had been shut down due to recent heavy rain. I think because of this the hike wás changed to hiking up hill instead of down which required more energy than I had this day so I skipped the hike and had 2 hours free for lunch. We took the cable car down the hill which was fun. Our guide was informative. I'd suggest bringing a lunch from Barcelona as the cafes are slow, overpriced and slim pickings.
