Recommended, great value one-day minibus speed-tour of an extensive checklist of famous scenic spots in the Lake District. This tour is perfect if, like me, you've never visited and want to get a rapid sense of all the places you'll want to go back to when you have more time! If you are in the area several days then put this on your first day. Our driver, Graham, was very friendly and knowledgeable and provided just the right level of commentary and explanations as we toured around. This includes driving between places and we got a very good sense of the overall geography and history. He also smartly adapted the route based on the weather, the tour party interests, and included a couple of unlisted bonus detours. Lunch is up to travelers to find during a 1-hour stop in Keswick although with a bigger party and more daylight I'd imagine that could be a longer stop. As there are several stops where there are good shops, most importantly the tiny one-of-a-kind Sarah Nelson Grasmere Gingerbread bakery, bring shopping money and a bag or two! Some of the stops give you time to have quick walks around paths, viewpoints, lakesides, so consider wearing walking shoes or boots.

After a member of The Lamplighter Dining ~ Rooms team recently experienced Mountain Goat’s Ten Lakes Spectacular tour, we are delighted to say it comes highly recommended for our guests! Although our colleague has lived in Windermere for six years and was already familiar with many of the locations on the itinerary, the tour still offered something genuinely special. Much of this was thanks to the guide, Steve, who was born and raised here in the Lakes. His knowledge, warm personality and engaging storytelling truly elevated the day. The tour provided a wonderful balance between must-see highlights and hidden gems, even revealing places our staff member didn’t know existed. Throughout the journey, Steve shared fascinating historical insights and local folklore, bringing the scenery to life in a way that deepened appreciation for the region we are proud to call home. Despite the seven-hour duration, the day felt perfectly paced. The minibus was comfortable, the breaks well-timed and the added convenience of on-board phone charging was very welcome. Our staff member returned feeling even more connected to this beautiful area, thanks to Mountain Goat and especially to Steve. We will be confidently recommending this tour to The Lamplighter Dining ~ Rooms guests looking to explore the Lake District in an informative, relaxed and truly memorable way. Thank you to Mountain Goat for a wonderful experience!

I enjoyed this tour with the scenery and the stops in Grasmere & Keswick were great. I think Grasmere is my favorite and it had a fabulous shop called the Grasmere Gather. I can’t remember where we stopped sometime before lunch and were able to get a quick snack. I got the best hot chocolate. I am picky regarding hot chocolate and it was yummy and looked scrumptious. Thanks to Tony for picking me up @ my B&B and dropping me off. Highly recommend!

Graham, our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the Lake District giving our small group masses of information and background about the Lakes, their history from the mountain formation and geology to Viking invasions and battles, Mary Queen of Scots and so much more. The scenery we passed was spectacular and it was never any bother if any of us wanted to stop and take photos. Really good value and a fabulous day out.

The area is worth visiting and this tour is a good way to get an idea of the places and their history. Our driver, Mark H. told several things about the area (everything is in English only) including several historical notes. The tour is not exhaustive, but it makes the idea well. Some roads are really narrow and considering left-hand driving, this can be tricky. Having an experienced driver helps.

Even though it was raining during our trip, my family and I truly enjoyed every moment. The Lake District was absolutely beautiful, and our tour guide, Peter, made the experience even better. He was so kind and knowledgeable — he showed us so many wonderful places and explained everything in such an interesting way. We really appreciated his enthusiasm and the stories he shared. Thank you so much for such a lovely tour! We’re already planning to come back in March next year.

An amazing day out! We were ever so lucky to have Steve as our guide - he was sensational in his narration and storytelling. The great history of the lakes combined with his own anecdotes made the whole trip so much more interesting and interactive. One of the best tours of the lakes. Highly recommend!
