At 3724 metres, Aoraki Mt Cook is New Zealand’s highest peak. Located in the heart of the ruggedly beautiful Mackenzie District, it was first summited in 1894 by Tom Fyfe, Jack Clarke, and George Graham and remains a popular ascent to this day. However, as a sacred ancestor for local Ngā Tahu iwi, Aoraki is more than just a mountain. He and his brothers’ story is arguably one of the South Island’s most important Māori legends, speaking to the dramatic formation of Kā Tiritiri o te Moana (Southern Alps) which have since become home to one of Aotearoa’s most beautiful National Parks.
So why not join us as we travel to see Aotearoa New Zealand’s tallest and most famous mountain. You will be driven in comfort by our modern, comfortable Mercedes Sprinter (or similar) packed with the extras to make the trip that bit easier. Led by our fun, knowledgeable, and passionate tour guides, this journey is one you will never forget!

Lake Tekapo
We start by picking you up in Tekapo before driving further into the Mackenzie Basin for our first stop. From late November to early January, the famous lakeshore is adorned with clusters of wild lupins.
Lake Pukaki
Before arriving in Aoraki Mt Cook National Park, we stop at Lake Pukaki. With its shifting colours ranging from ice to deep blue depending on the weather, this glacier-fed lake stands out from other alpine lakes in the region. On clear days, enjoy uninterrupted views of Aoraki rising from the lake’s edge.

Enjoyed the day. Nice tour guide. Visibility better from the window seats. We joined at Lake Tekapo to go to Mount Cook. I imagine it was quite a long day for those coming from Christchurch. Mount Cook is magnificent and the surrounding glaciers, I recommend seeing it, whether it be this tour or your own means, however the tour driver is very accomplished at driving on the wintry roads.

Glacier in distance, clouds in distance in front of Mount Cook. Driver's commentary was inaudible, van arrived 15 minutes late.

This is really a fantastic trip. Because of the snow, the journey was delayed by about 2 hours. Fortunately, it wasn’t cancelled and we experienced the impressing Tasman Glacier. The guide is a warmhearted gentleman. He introduced those scenery in detail. Because of the delay, they even kindly sent a 50% refund. So sweet!

Sadly, the weather prevented us from our original tour planned but the company accommodated us with other options. We had a great tour guide named Brent.

Good day. Spectacular views even though the cloud wasn't the best on the day. It is always going to be hit and miss in the mountains. Great driver that avoided an accident just! A foreign driver decided to pull over were you couldn't at the last minute with half a dozen vehicles behind and almost caused a disaster. Our driver Shale? (Cheeky Kea) handled it very professionally. Very good driver. Worth more money if management are looking at this.

Trip was fabulous! View with blue sky and a full mount Cook. Took many pictures. Nice that it was in a small group. Good driver and a great day.

I booked the Mount Cook via Lake Tepako day tour from Christchurch and I must say it was one of my best days ever. I was a solo traveller, picked up on time by the wonderful Brent and the views along the way were just sensational. Everyone on my tour was also really lovely and the lunch and snacks provided were a great touch and delicious local food. Brent was a great tour guide with a great sense of humour. His knowledge was second to none and even allowed a quick stop to get better pics of the lake on the way back from the trip as the way there was a little foggy. Obviously you can't stop the weather and even with the rain pouring as we reached the mountains, it was still so beautiful and had we plenty of time to explore. This of course meant no scenic flights available as an added extra on the day which wasn't the end of the world (as you get unreal views of the mountains flying in and out of Christchurch airport anyway on a commercial flight!) but this tour is a must book!! 5 ⭐️
