Mt. Inunaki
Mt. Inunaki is regarded as one of the oldest sacred mountains in Japan. According to recent historical research and advances in the academic study of Shugen-do, Mt. Inunaki is now considered the birthplace of Shugen-do. We hike up this mountain to the temple. About 35 minutes bus transportation from Izumisano station to Mt. Inunaki and its return transportation is included in the tour duration.
Shipporyuji Temple
Stone pillars are lined up on both sides of the approach, and red and black flags are erected. It is a Shugendo-style temple, with many shrines and Buddhist statues. The syncretism of Shinto and Buddhism is evident, with the Hotei statue visible behind the stone torii gate. The Inunaki River flows through the mountains, and there are seven waterfalls and places to practice.

Our day was mostly rainy, but we still enjoyed the walk to the temple. Beautiful scenery. Guide shared several local stories. The lunch was an unexpected treat - more than 30 dishes with seasonal vegetables. Hot springs with open air view were serene, relaxing, very clean.
