Museo de las Momias de Guanajuato
The Museum of the Mummies is a popular tourist attraction located in the city of Guanajuato, Mexico. The museum houses a collection of mummified human bodies that were naturally preserved due to the unique climatic and soil conditions in the region. The mummies were originally buried in the local cemetery during the 19th and early 20th centuries, but were exhumed in the mid-20th century due to a local tax on burial plots. The museum has over 100 mummies on display, including men, women, and children, some of which are in various states of decay. The mummies are arranged in different poses and positions, with some standing upright while others lie down. Visitors can see the mummies up close and even observe details such as their clothing and facial expressions. The museum offers guided tours and audio guides in both English and Spanish, providing historical and cultural context about the mummies and the traditions surrounding death and burial in Mexico.
The Mina de San Cayetano Valenciana, also known simply as Valenciana, is a historic silver mine located near the city of Guanajuato in central Mexico. The mine was first discovered in the late 16th century, and it became one of the most important silver mines in Mexico during the colonial period. The mine is known for its rich history and its impressive engineering, with underground tunnels extending for over 20 kilometers. The mine produced an enormous amount of silver, estimated to be worth billions of dollars by today's standards. The wealth generated by the mine was used to build many of the beautiful colonial-era buildings and churches in Guanajuato. Today, the Mina de San Cayetano Valenciana is open to visitors for tours. Visitors can descend into the mine and see the underground workings, including the original tunnels and shafts. The tour also includes a visit to the mine's museum, which houses a collection of artifacts and tools used by the miners.

We were disappointed not to get to any other museums than the mummies. The only other museum we were offered was the Museum of Torture which we declined. Our driver was lovely and polite and a good driver but he did little guiding and his English was only fair. It was not what we expected.

We were picked up right near our hotel for this private tour, which made everything so convenient. Our English-speaking guide was knowledgeable and engaging, sharing fascinating insights into the sights and history of Guanajuato. The driver handled our small bus expertly, ensuring a smooth and safe ride. Highlights included the eerie Mummy Museum and descending into a centuries-old silver mine—both were unforgettable experiences! A big thanks to our guide Ramses and driver Reyes for making this a truly wonderful day. Highly recommended!

A good experience, the city was very saturated in most museums, (that of mummies for example) and we were offered alternatives for the time we had, good service

We were contacted in a timely manner to arrange for our pickup. As our family was the whole group, they were flexible about going to another place other than the one in the schedule. They mostly drove us around and let the tour guides of the places we visited to explain. We were on our own on the Mummies but they have most of the information translated to English.

Ramses did a wonderful job telling us the history of the area. Showing us around and even going into the mines to get a feel of the way it was, was extremely cool. Enjoyed the tour. We ended at the Mummy museum and that was something to see.
