We had a fantastic day trip from Bengaluru to Mysuru with our guide Shiva and our driver Narendra. Shiva was outstanding — his English was excellent, his explanations were clear and engaging, and he brought each stop to life with just the right amount of history and context. Narendra drove smoothly and safely throughout the day, making the journey comfortable and relaxed. Our first stop was the grand Mysore Palace, where we spent a couple of hours exploring this extraordinary Indo‑Saracenic masterpiece, with its blend of Hindu, Muslim, Rajput, and Gothic influences. Shiva guided us through the details with real enthusiasm. We then visited St. Philomena’s Church, built in 1840, followed by a wander through Devaraja Market — the charming old bazaar of Mysore, full of colour, fragrance, and local life. Lunch at TKS Authentic Iyengar Restaurant was a highlight in itself, especially eating a traditional meal served on a plantain leaf. We ended the day at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Chennakeshava Temple, a breathtaking example of Hoysala architecture. Shiva’s insights here were especially valuable. Overall, it was a wonderfully curated day, and both Shiva and Narendra made the experience smooth, informative, and memorable. Highly recommended.
