Mindo is a small town in the Andean foothills of Ecuador. Set in beautiful cloud-forest, it attracts birdwatchers first and foremost, but also has attractions for other tourists. Mindo is located to the north west of Quito. This town was founded in 1861 and the current population is around 3000 inhabitants. Mindo is surrounded by the Mindo-Nambillo Cloud Forest; the forest is home to hundreds of species of birds many of them are in danger of extinction.
Here you have a possibility of activities to choose from that are not included in the price of the tour; such as hiking the waterfall, canopy/ziplining, participate in process of making chocolate, and explore the world of butterflies.

What To Expect
Meetting point in Carpedm officce. Departure at 7am from Carpedm’s office we will Set off towards Mindo. The drive takes about two and a half hours. Our first stop is the Zip lines or Canopy as they call it here as you are literally above the canopy. There are 10 lines in total and if you are feeling brave you could even try the superman or Butterfly. After about an hour of adrenalin fueled fun you will head towards the Tarabita which is a cable car that takes you to the start of your waterfall walk. As you walk through the cloud forest you could see a variety of different birds and butterflies. if you bring a swim suit you could take a swim in the crystal clear water. Once you have dried off a little we will head for lunch. After lunch optional activities are either: 1. Visit to chocolate factory (not included in price). OR 2. Visit to butterfly Farm / Hummingbirds (not included in price)

5.00I did two excursions with CarpeDM : Quilotoa and Mindo. It's really comfortable because everything is included : transport, guide, lunch. I've been to Quilotoa and Mindo with Alejandro. He's really a good guide. He knows very well the nature and animals from Ecuador, so he'll give you good explanations about what you're going to visit. He's really nice, speaks very well English. Muy buena onda! Gracias por todo!

5.00Our day trip to Mindo with Alejandro was incredible! He was knowledgeable, friendly and showed us an incredible experience. We learnt so much and even helped spot some Tucans for us and hold butterflies! We were apprehensive at first for paying for the day trip vs doing it ourselves, but we were so thankful and happy with our decision after an amazing day. The trip far superseded our cotapaxi trip (although also great) Thanks so much!

5.00We had a magical day in Mindo, seeing hummingbirds, butterflies, doing the waterfall trek and a tour of a chocolate farm. Alejandro was absolutely brilliant, the best tour guide I had in Ecuador - informative, helpful, lovely and chatty. He helped us understand mindo and we learnt a lot about Ecuador too. He also helped us to spot Toucans! Great experience.

5.00An amazing day trip from Quito. Our guide, Alejandro, was very knowledgeable and interesting telling us many facts about the landscapes, plants and history of the area. I would recommend visiting the birds, ziplining and going to the chocolate factory.

5.00Lincoln was an excellent and knowledgeable guide who led us on a walk through the CloudForest. This activity requires mild-moderate fitness for the hike. We also enjoyed a visit to Yumbos Chocolate factory, as well as experiencing the magic of the hummingbirds at Alambi Reserve. Zip lining was followed by a delicious local lunch in Mindo, as well as the beautiful butterflies at Mariposas de Mindo. An activity packed day which we throughly enjoyed. Lincoln drove us safely from one place to another, dropping us off at the airport at the end. I would highly recommend this day adventure under Lincoln’s guidance!
