We offer a one of a kind night walk to the Namib's gravel plains where you will be shown the desert adapted night life concentrating on the various species of Gecko, Spiders, Gerbils and Scorpions. During the day the desert looks inhospitable, unfriendly, devoid of any animal life, but once the sun sets, the sand turns into a playground for all kinds of animals. Most of the creatures in the Namib are nocturnal and can be observed only after dark. The Night walk offers a glimpse into the nocturnal theatre of this unique eco-system. After dark the seemingly barren Namib gravel plains come to life and we help you discover these little nocturnal wonders. The walks provide a truly amazing educational experience of the little seen nocturnal creatures. This walk starts from near the Rossmund Lodge where a short walk across the Swakop River will take you to the desolate gravel plains to the south. It is advisable to have dinner before the walk.

Chantal has given us an exciting evening. She found a variety of animals at night, told us exciting stories about her survival strategies and touched us how cautious she is with the animals and the environment. Plus centuries-old artifacts, stones and stars. Important tip: Dress very warm, it gets very cold in the desert.

Wow, what a treat we were in for. We were met by a very full on, enthusiastic Chantelle, who was very passionate about the invertebrates/reptiles we would be seeing tonight. She is very knowledgeable about the various animals, and unwavering skill in finding them, along with a great sense of humour. It suppose to have been a 2 hour tour, but as it had ended with only two of us going in the end, the other people had dropped out, it was slightly longer, as there were lots of things turning up. A was good fun, but you still had to respect the area as this was a fragile environment, and had to be respected, also without Chantelle's guidance of walking behind in line, who knows how many scorpions we would have walked on!!! Thank you Chantelle.

Chantelle led an excellent night walk. Fantastic to meet someone who is clearly passionate about their work and enabled us to understand the eco system of the Namib desert and the tiny creatures living there. A must do evening activity in Swakopmund.

It's cold at night, make sure to dress warmly. Chantelle was so passionate and knowledgeable about all the desert creatures. We had a great walk, saw geckos, spiders and crickets, as well as ancient bushman artifacts and learned about egg shells and how they fluorescent under UV light. A great evening well worth braving the cold

We booked a long time in advance , but as we were the only two people on the tour they could not guarantee the walk would happen as they need a minimum of 4 people. Thankfully another couple booked in, and we had a wonderful evening on the dunes in the dark. We arranged a pick up from our accommodation and were driven to the dunes on the edge of Swakopmund. The tour started with some rules about walking around the desert and how not to upset the wildlife , and a quick lesson on the stars, Then our guide Chantal led the way barefoot on the search for the night time creatures. From scrabbling around in bushes to looking for tracks in the sand she found some wonderful creatures for us to see. From gheckos, scorpions, spiders and snakes were learnt all about them and the habitat they live in. With both ordinary and UV torches we got a close up look at these amazing creatures and Chantal was happy to take lots of photos for us , an expert at micro photography on any type of phone. It was amazing to walk around the dunes in the night and see a world we know nothing about. A nice touch at the end of the evening she offered to stop off at a diner in case any of us had missed dinner and wanted to buy some food. Fantastic tour which I highly recommend.
