Escape the airport during your Narita layover and discover a peaceful side of Japan just minutes away.
Your experience begins at a local sake brewery with over 300 years of history. Shisui is one of the few place names in Japan containing the character for “sake” (酒), named after a natural well where sake-like water was said to emerge.
You will then be welcomed into a private Japanese home and garden rarely open to travelers. Built over 50 years ago using traditional shrine and temple construction techniques, the house sits between a local shrine and a Kamakura-era temple.
Relax in the garden, enjoy tea and traditional Japanese sweets in a tatami room, and experience a gentle bodywork session designed to release travel fatigue.
Only one group is hosted each day, ensuring a calm and private experience.
Ideal for travelers seeking a rare, authentic, and deeply local Japanese experience.
Infants and small children can ride in a pram or stroller

My wife and I joined this experience during a layover at Narita Airport, and it became one of the most memorable moments of our entire Japan trip. The house is a traditional Japanese wooden home with a beautiful garden — but what struck us most was something harder to describe: the quality of the air, the silence, the feeling that time moves differently here. We sat on the engawa, looked out at the garden, and simply breathed. Over tea and wagashi in the tatami room, the pace of travel finally left our bodies. The bodywork session was unlike anything either of us had experienced. My wife felt a gentle tingling sensation moving through her, followed by a deep warmth spreading through her whole body. For me, the accumulated tension I hadn't even noticed — from the flight, from weeks of travel — quietly dissolved. We both left feeling lighter, clearer, more present. This is not a tour. It is an invitation into a home, into a way of being, that most visitors to Japan never find. If you have time near Narita — even just a few hours — do not spend it in the terminal.

During my trip back to China from Kyoto via Narita, I had an eight-hour transit at the airport. While looking for something interesting to do nearby, I happened to find this tour and decided to join. Since it was a completely private experience and the price was the same for up to two people, I invited a Korean friend of mine who lives near Narita Airport to join me. I have been living in Japan for almost ten years, but I had never visited such a beautiful and traditional private Japanese home before. The nearby temple and Shinto shrine also felt very local and authentic. There were no tourists at all, so we were able to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere completely by ourselves. We were served traditional Japanese sweets from Narita along with green tea, which was a lovely welcome. We spent some time talking with Mr. Matsuoka about his work and his travels. I was especially interested in hearing about Portugal and Turkey, two places I hope to visit someday. After that, my friend and I each had a bodywork session one by one. It was deeply relaxing and helped us recover from the fatigue of traveling and flying.

A wonderful experience, and the traditional Japanese house was beautiful. I highly recommend for anyone seeking to feel the heart of old Japan. Yuki is a great host as well!

A Hidden Japan, 20 Minutes from Narita — Unlike Anything Else After landing at Narita Terminal 1, we were met by the host and guided to the location in just a few minutes by car. The transfer was seamless. Arriving at the property, we immediately understood this was something different. To the left stands a small Shinto shrine, and to the right a Buddhist temple. The house sits quietly between them — a 50-year-old traditional wooden home surrounded by a beautifully maintained Japanese garden. The atmosphere immediately felt calm and peaceful. Inside the tatami room, we were served Japanese tea and traditional sweets, which was a wonderful way to relax. The host has traveled to more than 70 countries and speaks English, Spanish, and Mandarin in addition to Japanese. Our conversation felt warm and natural — not a performance, but a genuine cultural exchange. The bodywork session took place by the window in the warm spring sunlight. Fully clothed, lying comfortably on a bed, there was no pressure or pain at all. What followed was one of the deepest states of relaxation I have ever experienced. At some point I lost track of where my body ended and the room began. When I stood up, everything felt lighter — my body, my vision, even my thoughts. This is not simply a massage, and it is not just a tour. It is an invitation into a private Japanese home and a way of experiencing Japan that is rarely accessible to travelers. If you have a layover at Narita Airport — even for just a few hours — this experience is absolutely worth it. Instead of spending that time inside the terminal, you can step into a peaceful part of Japan that most travelers never see. My travel companion felt the same way. We are already planning to return and bring friends from overseas.

【◆ A Space Where You Can Experience “Authentic Japan” with All Five Senses】 The first thing that struck me when I visited Shisui Bettei was the extraordinary purity of the space. The air felt crisp and serene, almost as if I had stepped into a shrine or temple. The beautifully maintained garden and the quiet, peaceful tatami rooms embody the spirit of traditional Japanese wabi-sabi in every detail. Simply being there calmed my mind. It is a rare place where you can truly experience “Authentic Japan” with all five senses. 【◆ Total Immersion and Deep Relaxation】 Lying on the bed with the beautiful garden behind me, the treatment began in complete silence. When I closed my eyes, I felt as though I were floating in a vast universe filled with countless twinkling stars, entering a state of deep and profound relaxation. It was far more than just a massage. It felt as if the tension and fatigue in my body were being released down to the finest level. I was completely immersed, as though my mind and body were being thoroughly cleansed and reset. 【◆ A Complete Mind-Body Reset with Clear, Noticeable Results】 When the treatment ended, the discomfort I had been carrying felt as though it had simply disappeared. In particular, the pain I had been experiencing in my right lower back and right hip was completely gone before I even realized it. On top of that, the accumulated fatigue I had been carrying every day seemed to vanish all at once, and the mental fog inside me became completely quiet. The feeling of refreshment was so overwhelming that I found myself thinking, “So this is what a true mind-body reset feels like.” I regularly track my resting heart rate (RHR) with a smartwatch, and to my surprise, my RHR noticeably improved after the treatment. Of course, this is only my personal record, but to me it felt like one objective sign that this deep sense of immersion was not just psychological. It truly helped release tension stored deep in both mind and body and brought me into an exceptional state of relaxation. 【◆ A Special Experience to Relieve the Fatigue of a Long Journey】 I wholeheartedly recommend this experience to anyone carrying the fatigue of a long journey or the stress of everyday life. This is not just a soothing experience on an emotional level. It is a truly outstanding treatment where you can clearly feel the results as physical lightness and deep inner calm.
