What To Expect
Schloss Neuschwanstein
Your private tour guide will pick you up at your hotel in Füssen and surroundings and drive to Hohenschwangau village. then we take the shuttle bus to Marienbrücke, a 19th-century crossing that overlooks the Pöllat Gorge. Gaze down at Neuschwanstein Castle with its elaborate turrets and parapets, and then pose for photos set against the backdrop of the heart-stopping Tegelberg mountain. Then, head inside Neuschwanstein Castle for your walking tour, and learn how it was built for King Ludwig II in the 19th century. While the Romanesque Revival castle was intended as Ludwig’s retreat, the building was never completed and the king spent less than half a year living inside it. Admire the stately interiors, including murals that pay homage to compose Richard Wagner – Ludwig’s operatic idol – inside the Minstrel’s Hall. Explore rooms like Ludwig’s bedroom and admire the dazzling ornamentation of the Byzantine Throne Room.
Pilgrimage Church of Wies
We leave Hohenschwangau for a short ride to the famous Wieskirche (Church in the Meadow) for a visit to the stunning rococo interior. It is the only monument in the region on the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list.

5.00Truly so grateful to Astrid (and Tim and Cindy who allowed me to crash) for setting this up for me. Mattis was a perfect guide and we had the most amazing day touring the castles, church and Bavarian towns we got to see. The history of Ludwig II is fascinating and I felt like Mattis’s insights were a beautiful addition to the tours of the castles themselves. It was a perfect day that I’ll remember for a lifetime and I’m so glad I got to experience it!

5.00This tour seemed costly at first, however, the peace of mind of having a guide and the tickets taken care of was well worth the price! Matthew helped make our time in Fussen so enjoyable! He was easy to communicate with prior to our tour and during the tour. He was very informative and well spoken. His van accommodated the 5 of us comfortably. You can tell that he loves his town and knows so much about it! I would highly recommend this tour and if you can request Matthew you won't be disappointed! Thank you again!

5.00My husband and I had the most amazing time in Bavaria. This was certainly the trip of a lifetime and Astrid and her team exceeded our expectations. Our tour guides, Julia, Sandro and Matt, were very attentive, knowledgeable and provided excellent customer service. The accommodations were top notch from the beautiful scenery to the wonderful breakfast buffet. We enjoyed so many aspects of the trip it's hard to pinpoint favorite spots. We loved seeing the different castles, learning more about the region and visiting different sized Christmas Markets. I would highly recommend not only Astrid's tour company, but this trip in particular. Thank you so very much for making my first trip to Europe such a special one. 5.00We loved our Castles and Christmas Markets tour! The guides were very skilled - clear communication, helpful local knowledge, and pleasant. The itinerary was just right. We often had 2-3 activities per day with plenty of free time. We stayed in one comfortable location which was handy. Note that some of the locations are an hour or so away, so there is the necessary transportation time. Speaking of transportation, we were in 3 comfortable vans - not one coach bus. We appreciated that very much! We would recommend this company to anyone wanting to immerse yourself in what ever location you choose from their offerings.

5.00It was part of our dream trip in late September 2024. Matheus our guide was very friendly, informative, interactive, and made us very comfortable throughout this spectacular journey. We are also thankful to his Manager that our last-minute changes were nicely accepted and well-managed. We started the day visiting the Neuschwanstein a real-life fairytale Castle which was an unforgettable experience (must recommend the horse carriage ride for a great experience while returning from the castle). Then he drove us through scenic Bavarian country sides including beautiful turquoise blue Lake Plansee with the serenity of the mountains in the background. We were 4 of us (inc. one young kid and an elderly person) but we did not feel any trouble with walking as he gave us personalized attention and never rushed us to anything. We also enjoyed the splendid lavishness of the Linderhof Palace built by King Ludwig II, loved being able to walk around and explored the village of Oberammergau, tried local delicacy and finally enjoyed the stunning rococo interior of Wieskirche. The whole trip was well organized, timely and we had a wonderful autumn day exploring various country sites. We definitely recommend this trip with Matheus in European Castles Tours to everyone.
