John, our guide, met us at the port, which was very convenient. There were 14 people in the group. John was very friendly and knowledgeable , and we learned a lot about agriculture in New Zealand, and especially about how kiwis were grown. We went for a 20 minute hike to a beautiful waterfall in the woods, then drove a short distance to McLaren Falls, which was very impressive. John pointed out landmarks along the way, and provided a good perspective on many facets of life in this area and New Zealand in general. And yes, the brownies were as good as stated in previous posts! It was a very good use of a half day in port.

Amanda and Stephen were so incredibly thoughtful! Right from the home baked goods, all the way to the well timed rest stops and the absolute best views Tauranga has to offer. We absolutely loved every minute!

Exploring breathtaking spots felt more special thanks to the fascinating stories and local insights shared by Steve. What we appreciated most was how attentive and thoughtful he was — always checking in, adjusting the pace when needed, and making sure everyone felt comfortable. If you're considering a tour in New Zealand, I can’t recommend this guide enough. They truly made our trip unforgettable!

This tour was customized by Alan F 2, a local Kiwi. He talked about the history of the Māori culture. We saw a spectacular waterfall at McLaren Park. Alan brought snacks for us that included a gluten-free brownie from a local baker friend that was beyond delicious! Another one of his friends owns a kiwi orchard and gave him permission for us to have an extensive tour of it as long as we agreed not to touch any of the fruit. This is just a few examples of how his tour took us off the typical tourist path and showed us parts of Tauranga that you could never get from a typical hop-on hop-off bus tour. It was very personalized. He didn’t treat us like tourists; he was authentic and generous in sharing what it would be like to live there. He was very knowledgeable, personable and professional.

Amazing tour, learned about the history and culture of New Zeland, toured local sites. Allen our tour guide is very knowledgeable and keeps the tour engaged. Stopped at the waterfalls and had a yummy snack, the homemade brownies were to die for. Can’t say enough. Allen went above and beyond to keep us entertained. Highly recommend this tour you won’t regret it. Anthony Albright Wilmington NC USA

Unfortunately, due to bad weather, the Holland America cruise ship Westerdam could not come into port at short notice and so we missed the opportunity to take the trip and even to cancel.
