Our guide, Aza, didn’t show up until right at 11 which left us wondering if we were in the right place for sometime. We felt as if we got to know what food was good in the area, but we didn’t get any history really on the city or the region or what makes those foods special to Provence. I also felt that doing the tour in English and French was a huge waste of time, half of the tour was translating between one or the other. The market was also a let down, because we got to try the honey but that was it. I was really looking forward to potentially hearing more about it from the vendors or sampling the produce, it was late August when we were there so peak season for this. When then went into a bakery where she raved about the cake, but we didn’t get to try it, so it left me longing. The tour climaxed with a picnic lunch in an alley way. Like things were almost knocked off several times. While I did enjoy the food, especially the aperitif. We didn’t have anywhere to sit, that was kind of a buzzkill. Instead of having any history of the food or explanation of Provençal food, the tour guide spent the entire time asking me and my friend about our jobs in the US. That also kinda threw us off. We ended up having to leave the tour slightly early due to a scheduling issue on our end and she was extremely accommodating of that. I would say overall we did enjoy it, but I would not recommend.

Tom is an expert in what makes the provincial food special. He guided us through the packed streets of Aix en Provence on a most busy Saturday during the market to taste scrumptious treats from sellers of everything including truffles to ice cream. He knows everybody, and he knows the origins and history behind the development of each product. He was also very careful to alternate speaking in both French and English to accommodate his clients. The only thing I would have recommended is a small speaker or megaphone since there were 10 or 12 of us as this was a popular tour. It was good to take it during lunchtime however, the market in the streets were packed. Perhaps that was because we were there during the first week of August. The market closes at 1 PM so the timing of a tour from 11 to 130 works out beautifully. He was a great guide and this is a worthy experience.

Loved everything about this tour. We got to sample many things. The charcuterie sampling was the best.

An experience just at the top with our great guide Azza! We loved everything, the choice of products, the kindness of Azza and other participants, the setting! We'll be back to other "No Diet Clubs" in other regions!
