During Viking times, this settlement was an independent kingdom. Many secrets of those distant times are being revealed now, seriously surprising the local population. Your guide will tell you about the amazing finds and artifacts in Nordfjordeid, revealing the way of life of the ancient Viking society. As you drive through the White City, pay attention to the architecture typical of the 18th and 19th centuries. Your guide will show you the site where a Viking burial was discovered. It was here, in the city center, that the largest Viking ship was discovered in 1874. This is an incredible sight, and you begin to think about what kind of people lived here more than 1000 years ago... Listen to the guide and be surprised! Short photo stop on request.

Hornindalsvatnet Lake

On the way to the kingdom of glaciers we pass by the deepest lake in Europe - Hornindalsvatnet. Enjoy the majestic water mirror, which reflects mountains, clouds, forests and charming farms with shaggy sheep. This lake is very large, with an area of 50.5 square kilometers and a depth of 514 meters. The lake contains only a few species of fish (such as trout, char and eel), but the rivers are much more productive. Hornindalsvatnet's source, the Eidselva River, is a famous salmon and trout fishery in Nordfjordeid. Fishing permits can be purchased from local hotels along with maps showing where fishing is permitted. Look closely at the lake as your guide talks about the amazing legends and the Horney monster that lives in this lake.

This tour of Olden was the highlight of our week in Norway! The views were absolutely incredible. Myla was our tour guide. She took us to amazing and off the beaten path type of places for amazing photos. We took trolls cars to a glacier, and walked the path up to the crystal clear lake beneath the ice. We took a skylift to a point above the city and saw incredible mountain and fjord lake views. We enjoyed a fabulous lunch, where I had moose cakes! She spent time driving our group and stopping at lakes, waterfalls, campgrounds, bridges and endless photo sights. It was really a fabulous time and worth the cost. We are told it's the only tour that does both the troll cars and the skylift. Most of the cruise passengers couldn't get troll car tickets and had to walk up the trail to the glacier (45 minutes). Myla had everything booked for us in advance!

There really is nothing like having a private tour at your destination especially when traveling on a cruise ship where time is precious. Radmyla was a wonderful guide ( and a great driver too!). She knows the ins and outs of the area. She took us to the glacier and the sky ride which were both amazing. She is also a wonderful photographer as the pictures she took of us were beyond good. I highly recommend this tour.
