Our Island Culture Tour showcases our rich and diverse cultural heritage, from our Polynesian and Tahitian foremothers, our Bounty Mutineer forefathers through to early influences of religion, and seafaring settlers joining our community including American Indians, African Americans, Irish, English, Sami and New Zealand Māori. Be immersed in the rich heritage and deep gratitude we hold for our forebears as you explore Norfolk Island’s living culture. Discover artefacts passed down through generations and hear stories of our local language, traditional fishing and historical whaling practices, weaving, cooking, and service during times of conflict all of which have shaped who we are as a community today. This experience showcases how Islanders have evolved through the ages, living sustainably on the land and sea, guided by the rhythms of the seasons. You'll also have the chance to sample traditional seasonal dishes and try your hand at weaving, all in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

Norfolk Island
The Norfolk Island Culture tour is an immersion in Norfolk Island’s rich cultural heritage. Learn about the rich history from the first Polynesian settlement, through to the Mutiny on the Bounty. The settlement of Pitcairn Island with the 12 Tahitian foremothers and the arrival of the Pitcairn Islanders on Norfolk Island in 1856, the whaling days, through to life today. See a Tapa beating and weaving demonstration. Hold history in your hands, with relics of the past. A local "maek do" tasting of local produce foraged that day and much more.

2.00The AUD$85pp paid for a short return bus trip from our accommodation, a very long demonstration about hat weaving (most of which was difficult to see because of the number of people sitting in rows), an unaccompanied tour of the home and a plate with 2 chutneys, shashimi (that was horrible) and 3 or 4 crackers, with tea/coffee/water. The demonstrator needed to seat us in a circle or U shape to demonstrate, & to also provide each of us with a small piece of weaving material to 'have a go'. Many people did not eat the shashimi so it was not a good choice of local food.

2.00The local stories of growing up on the island and demo of weaving were interesting, but that was all the history and cultural info we were told. Not the long history or rich diversity or artifacts I was expecting. The plate of food on the brochure looks delicious, but we received 2 tiny spoonfuls of relish, a spoonful of fish pate and 4 rice crackers...unfortunately I don't have a photo. Not value for money at all.

5.00This was a very interesting and informative tour. It was wonderful to be invited into a true Norfolk Islanders property and listen to island stories that would not necessarily be shared on other tours. It really gave us a great appreciation of how gifted islanders are at improvising and problem solving. This tour was truly a rich cultural experience. The tasting plate was delicious thanks to the wonderful chef and Mark the poet shared some moving island inspired poems.

5.00The presenters are very passionate about their culture and they convey this to the visitors. It was very informative, friendly and relaxed. They gave a different and realistic account of the Bounty compared to the movies which was quite interesting. The food sampling was something special, topped off with some poetry written and presented by local poet Mark. A great experience.

5.00Great experience, most informative ,with a wealth of knowledge from Bounty descendants. So glad we got we went on cultural tour with Baunti tours . Then we met Aunt Mary, who whipped up a tasting plate of island fare-WOW *****! Finished off with some beautiful verse by Mark. A great way to start our holiday.

5.00This tour offers an immersion into Norfolk culture beyond Mutiny on the Bounty! History, food, culture and literary verse. An eclectic mix of family treasures that provide a living history to the Evans family. Jane, Lilly, Mary & husband and Mark provided us with an afternoon full of Norfolk passion. If you do just one tour do this one.

5.00Excellent experience. Interesting to hear from people who have Pitcairn and Norfolk ancestry and others who have moved to Norfolk. Video was interspersed with practical demonstration and exhibits. An insight into Norfolk life. The tasting plate was delicious!The poetry was a bonus.
