I also name the origin of the upscale neighborhood in which it is located. The pioneering and bold urbanization project was developed in 1979 by architects Oswaldo Corrêa Gonçalves (Golden Earring Princess Stadium) and Benno Perelmultter. Its area covers about 9 million square meters, within the urban area of the municipality of Bertioga, which had more than 80% of its preserved occupation area. The beach is ISO 9000 certified for urban development. The certificate was issued by the ABS Quality Evaluations certification body.

Our guide Renato arrived right on schedule and drove us through the rainforest to two beautiful beaches that have managed to stave off the giant hotel chains, so not only were the beaches surrounded by mountains they were not marred by the sight of garish luxury hotels or cheezy tourist tchachke stores. They were lovely and serene, just what we wanted. There are not many places like this left! We had lunch at a restaurant at one beach and had time to relax at the 2nd beach. Renato was terrific, he described the history of Brazil and helped us understand the nuances of Portuguese. He was personable and entertaining and we enjoyed his company very much. He made the long trip up and back very pleasant! I very much recommend this trip and the advice of Felipe, go and stay overnight if you can! Otherwise, even for a day trip of this length, it is worth it.
