Explore some of the many famous historical sites and adventure across the spectacular landscape. Here you’ll take a trip to the seaside town of Whitby once you arrive in the town you will have free time to explore historic town and enjoy the famous Fish and Chips.
The first stop is Byland Abbey to visit the historic ruins, then onto the picture perfect village of Helmsley.

Please Note: From - 28th March- 25th April 2026 Due to ongoing repairs to the full railway line at Goathland, the planned train journey from Goathland to Whitby is not currently possible. Instead, the tour will now include a train ride from Pickering to Goathland. As a result of this, your return to York may be slightly later than originally scheduled, with an expected arrival time between 17:45 and 18:00.
Please note that the North York Moors Railway have a private event from June 11th-14th. On these days, our tours will include entrance to the iconic Whitby Abbey instead.
Please Note; from 23rd March- 27th September 2026 (except for selected dates) the North York Moors Railway will not operate on Thursdays and Fridays during the 2026 season. On these days, our tours will include entrance to the iconic Whitby Abbey instead. Please call the office for further details.

What To Expect
Visit the ruins of this medieval monastary, drenched in history the remains are a fasianting stop on the tour.
Helmsley
Enjoy a break in this Yorkshire village, where you can stop for a drink and explore the area. You will also have the option to visit the castle ruins for an additional £5.80.

5.00We have just finished the tour of the north Yorkshire moors to Whitby. What an amazing day. Barry our driver and guide was incredibly knowledgable and we learnt soo about the local areas and the history. We first went to Byland Abby, then into beautiful Helmsley for coffee and cake and then into Whitby for a 2 hour stop off and lunch. On the way back to York we hopped off the bus and took a steam train from Goathland (Hogwarts station!) to Pickering. Barry then drove us back to York with more history tales and information. Thank you and highly recommend the tour. Everything worked like clockwork and we felt in safe hands.

1.00Unfortunately we misunderstood the directions as to where to meet the bus to start the tour or perhaps we could have been informed of the meeting place earlier to give us more time to locate the exact location. We were in the area but on foot so were late by the time we figured out the correct location. We were extremely disappointed to miss the tour. We were on a Viator tour in Salisbury 4 years ago and it was excellent.

5.00What a fabulous day. Our guide, John was delightful. He felt like a member of the family. John was so personable, answered questions, respectful, witty, and was so chill. It was so nice have a local York resident to share history and local stories. The trip over the moors and to Whitby was incredible. Then the surprise train ride was just a nice touch. The group in our van was fun and we met some fun friends. John kept everyone aware and even had a fun quiz with a surprise at the end. Highly recommend this tour w /John. It was hard saying goodbye 😊👍🚐
