We went out at 5:30pm last night on a tour, 6 guests. The guide, Oli, drove us in the opposite direction to every other tour guide. We spent 5 hours on the Finland boarder watching the most spectacular lights display - not in our wildest dreams could we have even hoped for such a display. The green and pink aurora built up until it literally exploded over our heads. Oli said it was in the top 10 % of displays he had seen and he has seen 1000’s. He was so giddy we believed him, he was asking if we would like to stay until 4am!! It was -24, but we were in Arctic survival suits so…. We stayed as long as we could! We got home We have had the fantastic professional photos and time lapse vid a day or so later. Ollie’s enthusiasm, knowledge, research and obvious love of the aurora was infectious. Made the night so special. It was OUTSTANDING!! XX

Definitely recommend this tour! Run by the owners, it's a private and personalized curated experience for your small group. So you get to go EXACTLY where the lights will be (If they will be), and they are professional photographers, providing you with their time lapse and photos - Worth it just for this! But there's more - they are amazing guides, extremely knowledgeable about the northern lights and very passionate about what they do, you'll be entertained the entire way. They care deeply for everyone's comfort, providing thermal suits, hot chocolate, cookies, and hot dogs!! Wow! Do this trip!

Oli & Ryan have a good reputation - that’s why we altered our initial travel plan to join this tour, and luckily it was totally worth it. Total time we spent on the trip was 7.5 hours, everything felt smooth and easy, no sweat, no trouble, no complaint and most importantly, no bad luck. They drove off Tromso at 17.30 and took us to a fjord with a nice landscape. The aurora was faint when we arrived, but eventually got stronger and we got an amazing show that lasted from 21.00-23.00. What I liked the most: the guides were keen on engaging us, they distributed the chance for everyone to get nice pics, prepared thermo suits, food and drinks, and helped with some other minor details - the care that you probably wouldn’t get in other tours. Even if we didn’t see the lights, I guess no one would leave a bad review. One more important thing if you’re interested in good photos: the pictures they took showed our face clearly. It’s quite technical so I won’t go into details, but not all photographers can take your pics under the northern lights in which your face is shown clearly in good details.

We can highly recommend this tour. Our guide drove us to a wonderful lonely place and infected us with his enthusiasm for the magic of the Northern Lights. We received a lot of information about the origin and course, saw fascinating Northern Lights and drank hot cocoa and grilled sausages by the campfire. It was an impressive experience thanks to our super nice guide. Always happy to.

This really was an experience of a lifetime. Ollie and Ryan went above and beyond to provide us with the best experience possible, and it exceeded our expectations. The effort they put in to find us a decent spot to view the lights was incredible. These blokes are like storm chasers! You can tell they really do love the Northern Lights and are also great photographers, so you’re going to get the best possible results. Our final destination was nothing short of gorgeous. In a valley between 2 mountain peaks, and a bridge over a small river, made for some stunning shots, with or without the Northern Lights. In saying that, the sky lit up, and what a view! They should also be commended for their safe driving, seamless set up, with our warm suits, fire, hot dogs and hot chocolate. We absolutely loved it!

We had a super experience with Oli and Ryan! Both are passionate and professional building the excitement and then photographing an experience to last a lifetime. We enjoyed their famous, piping hot chocolate, and even though the lights were very distracting and tried to win, our hot dogs did not burn 😃 Thank you both from the bottom of our hearts 💕 The Aussies R&R.

The tour with Oli and Ryan was fantastic. They took us to a beautiful place to watch the Northern Lights. We were so lucky and saw the lights dancing overhead, just magical. Both tour guides told a lot of exciting things about the Northern Lights phenomenon, we had a funny small group and a lot of fun! Highly recommended tour if you appreciate the personal.

I would 100% hands down choose to book another tour with Northbound when (not if) I revisit Tromsø! And you can be sure that I will book that tour the moment I book my plane ticket! You will hear stories and learn something about the Northern Lights, space weather, and life in Norway – all served up with a dose of banter and lots of laughs… and let us not forget the hot chocolate and yummy hot dogs! We also appreciated Oli’s very safe driving and Ryan’s very beautiful photographs! This dynamic duo also made every effort to engage with everyone in the group, and their passion for the Northern Lights is truly infectious! Thanks Oli & Ryan, for a wonderful night out with Lady Aurora, shooting stars, and great company! Here’s to the power of the dogs 🌭! p.s.: photos are my own, taken on my humble phone. You’ll get much nicer ones sent to you from Northbound!

Oli and Ryan led an amazing tour, they made everyone feel welcome from the start. They were passionate about the Northern Lights and shared their knowledge to the group. This was one of the highlights of my trip, I have some great photos and can't wait to return to Tromso to do it all over again!

I have previously seen the northern lights in Lapland and in Iceland but after spending two consecutive nights with Northbound, I feel like I truly experienced the northern lights in all their glory for the very first time. Oli and Ryan really go the extra mile to ensure that their guests have the best possible experience. On a very rainy day in Tromso they drove us over the border into Finland where they knew we would have the best chance of seeing the lights. They don't just stop the bus by the side of the road like some tour companies do, but find private stunning locations, away from light pollution, where they set up a fire and we settle in for a few hours to watch the lights unfold. Thermal suits are provided, hot chocolate, cookies, sausages cooked on an open fire. Heated van to return to if you're getting cold, one camera recording time lapse video, another camera to capture still photos of us in front of the lights. All images shared with us within 24 hours. And they provide the best explanation of what is happening as the lights move and and dance and explode over the course of the evening. Look no further, these guys are the best.
