Welcome to an Northern Lights chase designed for people who prefer smaller groups and more personalized service.
This evening excursion departs from downtown Tromsø but which direction we drive depends on the latest weather forecast. To experience the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis), the main thing we are searching for is clear skies well away from the bright lights of the city. Sometimes we drive out to the coast, sometimes inland and other times past three fjords up to the Finnish border. We leave the final decision as late as possible to maximize your chases of achieving what you came for – seeing the majestic Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) dancing in the sky.
When we find the perfect spot, we park the minibus and wait for the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) to appear. In the meantime, we help you adjust your camera so you can take good photos of the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis). We also serve hot drinks and biscuits while keeping an eye on the sky.

Bad experience and wish I had stayed at home.

1.00Bus seats way too tight. Could have just cancelled the trip if the chances of seeing the northern light is low. Just imaging paying the expensive ticket and spend 4 hours just riding the car with super tight space. What a terrible experience. Wish I had gone with another tour where they actually go to Finland to see it.

1.00We chose NLT Guide Company for our northern lights chasing tour. Unfortunately, this was a huge disappointment for us. We perfectly know that northern lights are a phenomenon which depends completely on nature and is unpredictable but if all region (including Finland) is affected with tremendous snow storm and low clouds you simply cancel the tour (as many other tour operators did) and don’t pretend that there might be some openings and there is a chance to see northern lights. On the same night our friends had trips scheduled with other tour operators and they got canceled due to bad weather and dangerous driving conditions while our trip took place. We are not frustrated because we didn’t see the aurora but because of how the trip was organised and that it happened at all. It started very late (at 19:30) and the guide decided to take us all the way to Finland (3 hours one way) only to tell us that we are returning because (surprise surprise) it’s snowing heavily (while terrible snow was predicted in all weather forecasts). We did not even leave the bus for any activity and returned to Tromso at 3 am, extremely tired. In addition, the bus was driving extremely slow (all other cars were passing us by) cause it had broken windshield wipers - the driver stopped almost every 15 minutes to remove ice and snow from the wipers which consumed a lot of time and we found it extremely dangerous and unbelievable (they decided to drive during a snow storm and didn’t even check the wipers?!). It is also true that this company makes many unnecessary stops on the way (e.g. half an hour toilet stop one hour from departure). But the worst part of the tour was our tour guide - Katerina. She didn’t seem to be determined as if she knew from the very beginning that this tour will be a failure. She behaved like this job was a punishment for her, we didn’t even see her smile once and no real initiative or nice communication came from her. Hey NLT, if your employees are so exhausted then maybe you should give them a few days off. To sum up, apparently NLT Guide Company chases money not the northern lights.

5.00Our Northern Lights safari in Tromsø was truly unforgettable. Our guide Stefan was incredibly friendly, passionate and knew exactly where to go. Thanks to him, we saw stunning Northern Lights dancing across the sky in beautiful, colorful waves — an absolutely magical experience. The comfortable minibus, hot cocoa and cookies, and the fact that photos were taken and shared online the very next day made the tour even better. I would recommend this experience to everyone — an absolute must-do when visiting Tromsø!

He went above and beyond to ensure we not only saw the lights, but also got amazing photos and have an overall enjoyable time. My partner proposed to me at one of our stops, and Peter did an incredible job of taking pictures of us with the lights. We will never forget this day!

5.00My family and I joined a Northern Lights tour with NLT on October 12, 2025. Our guide was Peter. When it started raining as we got on the bus, I secretly thought, “Guess we won’t get to see the Northern Lights tonight.” Peter was such a great guide — he made sure we were all comfortable on the bus and kept adjusting the temperature so we’d stay warm. At the first stop, there were lots of clouds, so we could only see a faint light. But Peter didn’t give up. He drove us to another spot farther away, and there we finally saw beautiful green and red Northern Lights. Everyone got amazing photos! My family and I were so excited and deeply impressed. Thanks to Peter and NLT for making our dream of seeing the Northern Lights come true.
