We had an absolutely amazing time with Arctic Explorers. There were four of us in a larger group of 12, and the atmosphere was perfect. Our guide, Petra, was exceptional: she took such great care of us throughout the entire evening. Not only did she find us some incredible Northern Lights, but her explanations of the science behind them were fascinating. What really made the night, though, was her keen sense of humour which kept us all entertained. We couldn’t recommend this experience more highly if you are in Tromsø!

We had a great experience with Barbara/Bara and Tomas on our mini-bus tour. Skies were clear near Tromso so we didn't need to drive far or stay out long for a wonderful display of northern lights. The guide did have an informative talk on the drive to the location on the science of the aurora, how the location was picked and why cameras see the aurora differently/better than our eyes. The evening also included a campfire (with reindeer skins to sit on), hot chocolate, dinner (delicious dehydrated expedition meals) and marshmallows. Also of course were several opportunities to have your picture taken with the lights. Amazingly the pictures were available to download within hours. The guides were also very helpful to help me get the right settings on my own camera. All in all a wonderful evening, made possible by clear skies and northern lights activity and made comfortable and educational by Arctic Adventures.

I went on the mini bus northern lights tour with my family including my teenage sons. It was fantastic. Our guide Tomas was incredible - going out of his way to monitor the sky and adjusting a destination so that we got to see the lights on a night when many others did not. We got to see the Northern lights in a beautiful mountainous area near Sweden, which was in itself breathtaking. Tomas was brilliant throughout - he took loads of photos and made sure we were all well looked after. Also thank you to Adam for brilliant driving.

Our guides,Thomas and co, knew their stuff and strategically hunted fabulous viewing spots. The experience was both entertaining and educational. Thomas’ knowledge of the various cultural beliefs of the lights was an added bonus. Thanks guys, a bucket list item achieved.

We expected to do more chasing, but for the most part we were on one location and it looked like our tour guide Alfredo wasn't in the mood to move around on New Year's Eve. He made a campfire, poured some hot chocolate and served military food in little bags and that was it for the first 3 hours. Most of the group went back into the bus after two hours, waiting for something to happen. Even though some people mentioned to him their apps showed activity at other locations nearby, he said it wouldn't make a difference where we'd go because 'northern lights are the same everywhere'. Which obviously is a bit of a debatable statement. His job was 'to find a clear sky and wait' he said. And in his opinion the activity was too low in the other locations, but he didn't get the hint that people just wanted to move and chase it. The group was bored out of their mind. When Alfredo got a call from a colleague somewhere around the 3 hour mark he took that more seriously and decided we should move. On the second location we got some nice northern lights, so no complaints there. So they delivered on the promise, but not on the experience.

I understand that seeing the Northern Lights is never guaranteed and that weather is unpredictable — that part of the experience I fully accept. Unfortunately, the main issue with this tour was not the weather, but the tour guide. From the very start of the tour at 5:00 pm, our guide Petra set a pessimistic tone by telling us it wasn’t a good night, despite saying we would “have fun regardless.” This immediately dampened the experience. Arctic Explorers’ slogan is “We don’t wait. We chase.” However, waiting is exactly what we did. We spent approximately 45 minutes parked at a water closet/parking lot because the guide believed it would be a good viewing location. Even if the lights had appeared, the backdrop would have been a large parking lot — not exactly the experience advertised. During this stop, multiple other tour buses arrived after us, used the facilities, and left before we did, which was frustrating and made it clear we were not actively “chasing.” In addition, the guide made several inappropriate and unprofessional comments, including stereotyping Norwegians as drunks and claiming that at 2 am “everyone is out drunk.” This felt unnecessary and disrespectful. Later in the night, around 1:30 am, the guide spent 30 minutes singing and taking photos for a single guest’s birthday, while the rest of the group was clearly exhausted and ready to return. This prolonged the tour without adding value for most participants. Finally, the guide told the group that a “hurricane” was coming to Norway the following day, which is inaccurate and misleading. As someone from Florida who is familiar with hurricanes, this statement was concerning. Worse, this comment caused real anxiety, as two guests were told they likely would not make their flights the next day. Overall, while I understand the Northern Lights cannot be controlled, guide professionalism, time management, accuracy, and tone absolutely can be. Unfortunately, this tour did not live up to the expectations set by the company’s branding or price.

Thank you to Thomas who shared his passion and enthusiasm for all things Norway and Northern lights. We were lucky enough to get to see the lights in an amazing setting. Thanks to Eric the driver too, whose friendliness and chats made the trip even better.

We booked several tours and everything was perfectly organized from start to finish. We did the Northern Lights Mini Bus Chase with guide Tomas, and this experience truly stood out. Thanks entirely to his outstanding expertise and decision-making, we were able to see the Northern Lights that night. While most other guides headed towards Finland in search of clear skies, Tomas made the bold choice to drive towards the Swedish border — and he was absolutely right. We enjoyed beautiful, vibrant auroras, while many groups in Finland ended up under cloudy skies. On top of that, he selected an incredibly scenic viewing spot that made the experience even more special. Tomas also made the bus ride itself very enjoyable. He shared knowledge in an interactive and engaging way, which was both informative and entertaining. He even took fantastic photos of us under the Northern Lights — something we really appreciated. We also joined the Fjord Tour with guide Magdalena, which was another great experience. She put a lot of effort into bringing us to the most beautiful spots along the route and kindly took photos of us as well. The day was very well managed, relaxed, and stress-free, and we truly enjoyed the friendly conversations with her throughout the tour. Additionally, we had booked a Whale Watching tour with a RIB boat, which unfortunately had to be cancelled. This was completely understandable, as the weather was extremely stormy and even larger boats did not operate that day. We couldn’t get a replacement date because the tours were fully booked during peak season. If whale watching is a top priority, I would therefore recommend booking two tours to increase your chances. Overall, a very professional, well-organized company with excellent guides. Highly recommended!
