Take your best chance to see the Northern lights from Rovaniemi in small groups! With your personal guide, you will explore the nature of Lapland and hunt the magic of the Aurora Borealis. Professional camera and pictures are included in this tour.
On all our excursions, our groups are limited to 8 people maximum. It is very important for us to provide you with the best experience possible, and avoid mass tourism. This way, your guide will know you better and will be able to address all your needs and answer your questions. Furthermore, when it comes to the Northern Lights, chances to observe them properly are increased when groups (and light pollution emitted by torches, phones, cameras, etc.) are reduced. As we usually say - the smaller the group, the bigger the experience!
Not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health
Service animals allowed
Public transportation options are available nearby
Specialized infant seats are available
Suitable for all physical fitness levels
A maximum of 8 people per booking
The Northern Lights are a natural occurrence, which activity, vibrancy of color cannot be guaranteed on the evening of the tour. Our tours are designed to maximise your chances to see them.
For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.
After being picked up and properly dressed with professional winter clothing and boots (if needed), your Aurora expert guide will drive you away from Rovaniemi, straight out to the wilderness. Based on the weather forecasts, the solar activity and our experience, we will select some locations that are more promising to see the Northern Lights. Your guide will also always check the weather conditions, and you may decide to try another location if you are willing to. As this excursion is a 4-hour tour, you may get the chance to visit up to 3 locations. This tour will offer you the opportunity to head into the Lapland wilderness and explore the arctic nature, hopefully with Northern Lights dancing over your heads! Your guide will share with you their knowledge about the forest, nature and wildlife, and the northern lights phenomenon. They will also teach you how to build a fire in the traditional way, using elements from your surroundings, and will serve you some hot beverages and Finnish snacks to warm you up. They will also be equipped with a professional camera and take many pictures of you and the Northern Lights (a link to download them will be sent to you the next day).

This was our third night chasing the Northern Lights, and choosing a private tour with Atanas from Wild About Lapland made all the difference. Atanas is an outstanding guide — incredibly attentive, calm, and deeply knowledgeable about the region. He clearly understands how aurora hunting really works: constantly adapting to weather conditions, cloud movement, and aurora activity rather than following a fixed route. We always felt we were in the right place at the right time. What truly stood out was the balance between expertise and warmth. The experience felt unhurried and personal, with thoughtful touches like perfectly toasted marshmallows and hot chocolate by the fire, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere throughout the night. This was not just about seeing the Northern Lights, but about enjoying the entire experience with someone who genuinely cares about his guests and loves what he does. It’s important to understand that the Northern Lights depend on nature and weather — something no one can control. But when you are standing in the middle of Lapland’s forests, at temperatures close to –30°C, having the right team makes all the difference. Their experience, judgment, and care turn a challenging environment into a safe, comfortable, and truly memorable adventure. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a private, authentic, and well-guided Northern Lights experience in Lapland.

You had a very experienced guide. You know all the best places to go to get the lights. It's always hit and miss, but in this case we got lucky and did see the lights.

I booked this tour as part of a christmas gift to my husband and parents who traveled from the USA. It was their first time in the Arctic region and they had never seen the norther lights before. Atanas was our guide and he led an incredible tour. We received a lot of academic knowledge on how northern lights are formed and what conditions are required for them to be visible. The truth is, due to the magnetic field of the earth and weather conditions, we (humans) really dont have any control of aurora borealis activity and despite clear skies and elimination of light pollution, northern light activity was extremely low. However, Atanas was persistent and was able to make a sighting of a small one that we caught on camera! In spite of the low activity, the views of the night sky, private locations we visited and the campfire/BBQ we had in a traditional Sami tent made this experience very memorable. Additionally, Atanas ensured we received a safe ride back to our AirBNB following the conclusion of our trip since we were staying outside of the city center. I recommend this tour!

Wild about Lapland is a fantastic company and Mark was a great guide. He knew where to drive to best locations, we had a few stops where we experienced the aurora in all its beauty - magical swirls and patterns in pinks and greens - what a magical experience!

We were lucky and had a clear night and the northern lights were active. Stopping in a remote area with no interfering light allowed us the best view. To have a BBQ and hot chocolate as well was a bonus. Viola and Wild About Lapland were fantastic.

First of all, I thought that the objective of the tour was to take the audience to a certain place, regardless of the weather. I went to the office beforehand to ask if they were going to stop touring in such terrible weather, and they said there was no certainty they would be able to see the Northern Lights as they were natural. The tour was cancelled early if the other friends could not see the Northern Lights on the day, but it was not cancelled here. We enjoyed the Wildlife Preserve and Takhini Hot Spring tour. I decided to go because I couldn't cancel anyway. It wasn't fun at all.

Our Northern Lights chase with Jade and Remy was unforgettable. From the very beginning, they were incredibly warm, welcoming, and full of excitement — and they passed that energy on to all of us. We traveled all the way to Sweden and had the incredible experience of seeing the Aurora four different times. The guides were fantastic — always stopping at the right moments, supporting everyone in the group, taking photos, giving tips, and helping with anything we needed. It truly made the whole adventure even more special.
