The best part of this tour is the down-home hospitality Sam tries to deliver with every ride. There is no real set schedule, so we have a bit more flexibility in how we do things. Sam will help you from the time you first write to the time she hugs you goodbye at the last stop and beyond if you're traveling to anywhere else that she is familiar with. Get to know other travelers and share once in a lifetime experiences along the way.

Fabulous day. Out guide was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed learning about the history of Nova Scotia. Peggys Cove and Lunenburg were my favourite stops but we did enjoy the scenery all along the coast

Alternative Routes was everything I wanted and needed when exploring the East Coast. I was solo travelling, seeking some time in nature - a chance to slow down, take in the scenery and really enjoy the journey. Sam and the team played a huge part in making the trip as memorable as it was. I chose the hop-on, hop-off ticket, which gave me the freedom to explore each stop thoroughly and at my own pace. That flexibility, combined with the team’s knowledge, passion, and genuine love for Nova Scotia, made for a truly incredible expereince that I will never forget! From start to finish, Sam and the team were responsive and reliable which completely took the stress out of travelling. It meant I could relax, enjoy the views and listen to the drivers’ stories as we made our way around the coast. I had Evan and Sam during my visit and their recommendations at every stop were spot on. The route itself was perfect - a beautiful mix of ocean views, small towns, cosy coffee spots, and welcoming communities. Evan even took us to a lovely local farmers market for ice cream along the way! One of the highlights was meeting other passengers. The team create such a warm, wholesome, and joyful atmosphere in the van through their storytelling and hospitality that connecting with other passesngers happens naturally. It felt less like a standard tour and more like sharing the experience with new friends. If you’re thinking about booking a tour with Alternative Routes, you absolutely should. I genuinely can’t imagine a better way to experience these pockets of Nova Scotia than with Sam and her team. Their care, passion, and hospitality shine through in every part of the journey, and I truly cannot recommend them highly enough.

It was a beautiful tour. The guide was quite informative and helpful. We lucked out on the weather as the next day was dreary.

Thank you to Ian and Andrew for a fantastic tour exploring this lovely part of the world. Not only were we taken to the major sights of Peggy’s Cove, Lunenberg and Wolfville, with plenty of time to explore but we stopped at beauty spots along the way, including unforgettable views of the Minas channel and the Grand Pre as the sun came out. Ian and Andrew were brilliant and friendly guides, who even knew the spots to point out osprey and bald eagles. It was just the best way to see this wonderful area.

Was it good? No! Was it excellent? Yes! Everything i might have wished for and more. Small group, entertaining and knowledgeable driver/guide - and beyond his control: superb sunny Spring weather and no crowds.

Truly couldn’t recommend this tour enough. Huge value on ethics, fair pricing, and amazing driver. Cheaper and more expansive than other tours available and everything is kept local. Amazing addition to my week long stay in Halifax.

Lots of opportunities for great photographs. Lots of people! It was very crowded, lots of tour buses. Lots of cute shops. Beautiful views.
