Overall, our visit to Baku was very positive and exceeded our expectations. Having done little pre-trip research, we were pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and modernity of the city center, the well-kept gardens and tree-lined streets, and the contemporary architecture, which can rival that of many world-class cities. The historic areas of Old Baku left us eager to learn more about the city’s culture and past and how these influences persist in modern life. Baku is also an affordable destination, with reasonably priced hotels and restaurants, and convenient local transportation—ride-hailing services such as Bolt made getting around on our free day quick and simple. Our private four-day tour included airport pickup and drop-off. We appreciated the punctuality of our drivers—Ricay, Samir, Pervin, and Emil—and the assistance of our tour coordinator, Guler, who prepared our itinerary and communicated updates. We also enjoyed meeting the owner of Baku City Tours, Mr. Arif Aliyev, during our culinary class; his friendliness and hospitality were notable, and I would recommend the company largely because of him. There are, however, several areas for improvement that future travelers should be aware of: Tour payment: The company requested payment of our outstanding balance on arrival, which was acceptable; however, we were asked to hand the cash directly to the driver who met us at the airport. This was communicated only at check-in, and several members of our group felt uncomfortable giving cash to someone we had just met. It would be preferable for an office representative or the tour coordinator to accept payments at the hotel, and for payment procedures to be confirmed well in advance of arrival. Unexpected itinerary changes: During our Old City tour our guide took us to a tea and lokum shop not listed on the agreed itinerary. Because the visit was unannounced and the shop’s door was closed behind us, some group members felt pressured to buy items. On private tours, any changes to the itinerary should be confirmed with the guests beforehand. Tour options and entrance fees: We would have appreciated clearer advance information about optional activities and associated costs. For example, we were not informed that there were two different options for visiting the Mud Volcanoes; the guide selected the one we would not have chosen. In addition, payment was requested on-site without a receipt or ticket to confirm the transaction. We enjoyed much of our time in Baku and found the city impressive, but addressing these operational issues would improve the experience and customer confidence.

The Old and Modern Baku tour was a very enjoyable experience 🌆✨ It was a great opportunity to see both the historical and modern parts of the city in one trip. The old city was beautiful and full of history, while the modern areas were impressive and very lively. The day and night views of Baku were amazing, especially seeing the city lights in the evening 🌃 Everything was well organized, and the tour felt comfortable and interesting from beginning to end. Overall, it was a great experience and a wonderful way to explore different sides of Baku in one tour 👍

An absolutely fantastic walking tour through old and modern Baku in March 2026! It was the perfect way to kick off a long weekend in the city and get a real feel for its unique blend of history and contemporary life. A special shoutout to our guide Leyla, who was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging throughout the tour. She made everything come alive with her stories and insights. On top of that, she took amazing photos of me along the way—such a thoughtful and appreciated touch! Highly recommended for anyone visiting Baku and wanting a great introduction to the city.

I had a long transit in Baku while travelling and thought of exploring it. Applied for online visa which was straightforward and the since I had a limited time, I chose 2-3 hours of tour guide to cover most important places of the city. Leyla was nice, friendly and very professional. She took wonderful photos, showed us all the places and brief description on significance of those places. I would highly recommend them.

I chose the private (with pickup) option for this tour, as I was travelling with my senior parent, and I wanted her to be comfortable with the pace. We were picked up promptly at our hotel, and were joined by our tour guide shortly thereafter. Because it was cold (early March), our tour started at the Heydar Aliyev Centre, and we proceeded to through all the highlights of the city in sequence. I have been on a lot of tours, and most of the guides are always kind, considerate, well informed, and welcoming. This guide, Elcan, went above and beyond. A young, sprightly, enthusiastic person, he put up with two older ladies traipsing along at their own pace without complaint. He didn't hurry us through the tour (even though he could easily have), and took the time to explain each attraction to us in detail. He even helped my mother over slightly trickier terrain, and he absolutely did not have to do that. It was much appreciated though. A word of appreciation for the tour company as well; they were communicative, prompt and mostly quite flexible. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour.
