What To Expect
This natural colossus is the highest from the three Volcanoes facing to the Southwest of lake Atitlán, its altitude is 3537m above sea level. The Volcano has a 250m diameter crater and in the highest part there is several cracks result from the latest eruption occurred in the year 1853. During a lucky day it is possible to observe the smoke expulsing in few quantity gasses from the top. The top of the Volcano offers one of the best views in the dry season. To observe the landscape from the higher part is the best way to appreciate the Volcanic chain of Guatemala. Contemplate the great view from the Volcano Atitlan is a picture that you will never erase from your memory.

3.00The guide was lovely and I felt very safe with him. He did not speak any English but we still managed to communicate enough. The hike itself is very challenging but beautiful views. However, the organisation was difficult - we could not get a straight answer out of the tour operator about difficulty, safety, what to bring etc. We also ordered poles with the tour operator and they were never provided to us. Our request for a refund was ignored.

5.00Salvador was an amazing guide. He provided amazing information about the birds and land and made sure we were safe and happy the whole time. He speaks both English and Spanish so no need to worry. This hike was absolutely incredible and I would recommend to anyone who is ready for a bit of a challenge

As we approached the village the majesty of our destiny gave us a small idea of what awaited us, I say small, because we must live it step by step. The challenge is strong, but with a positive mind it is achieved...not one step back. Our guide Salvador is a fundamental part of the achievement, with his charisma, experience, knowledge and personality... 100% recommended. The landscape is beautiful and is enjoyed as you go. Reaching the summit rewards you with a 360-degree view, which tells you...it was worth it 💪. After enjoying such majesty and charging with a delicious lunch we prepared to start the descent, which is not easy either. Happy and fulfilled by such a wonderful experience, I thank God, Savior our guide, my friends and fellow adventurers... Carlos, Karen and Carolina, because without their support, no such challenge would have been possible. And remember... 5.00It was a great experience, a demanding but very pleasant hike in company with our guide Salvador 100% recommended, a very special place, with wonderful view to the volcanoes of Acatenanango, volcano of fire, and others, besides the Lake, we enjoyed a delicious lunch prepared by the sister of our delicious guide, in general we spent a great day on this hike

5.00Very good excursion to the top of one of the volcanoes surrounding Lake Atitlan. Salvador is a person with a lot of knowledge of the place and its fauna, which made the hike much more interesting. We even had the chance to spot a cuckold turkey!

5.00We did the overnight hike, camping on the summit, and waking up for sunrise. Salvador was amazing - really helpful for the hike, went at a good pace and then we had a amazing fire and hot drink at night. We even went to the peak to check out fuegoin the distance erupting. The hike is really tough, especially with camping gear, and so this was a perfect end to a tough climb. Couldn't recommend Salvador enough. And the morning sunrise was so special that I decided to propose to my girlfriend :)

5.00Overnight hike to volcan atitlan! Salvador is super knowledgeable about plants and birds, geology, and all the trails. Seems like he knows everyone in the region...popular dude! The hike was challenging, 4 hours up to our camp spot, then a 4 am summit hike (1.5 hrs) for epic views of acatenango, Fuego, toliman, the lake, and even the Pacific Ocean. Highly recommend the overnight experience as opposed to the one day option...if the weather is clear you can even camp at the summit on the edge of the crater...no trees, but a nice flat camp spot on gravel, with lots of hot vents to warm you up. Bring water, nothing to filter on the way up. As of summer 2021 San Pedro trekking is still dangerous due to trailside robberies...hiking volcano atitlan is a great option...safer!

5.00Okay FIRST OF ALL, Salvador is the best guide we’ve had out of four trips here. The hike was either incredibly hard or we were very out of shape 😅 but he worked with us to still have an amazing time. We ended up also birdwatching and found many Quetzales. It was a beautiful time. He’s super knowledgeable, very kind, speaks English/Spanish, and even will offer you a raincoat if you tell him ahead of time! :) I would recommend this hike if you’re a cross fitter or really in to long hikes, but if recommended Salvador taking you anywhere whether you are traveling alone as a female, or this is your first time in Guatemala, or you’re in a family with kids, or a business trip, or literally whatever- he’s the guy!! We felt safe and taken care of the entire day. We can’t wait to come back and see more with him next year and the years to come.

5.00The tour to Volcan Atitlan is highly recommended! Salvador made us feeling safe and guided us to the top. Private transfer was included. The hike is tough... But Salvador adjusts the speed of the hike. He also points attention to birds and plants, which makes the tour very interesting! I recommend Salvador as the guide.
