You will meet a passionate farming couple in their family home dating back to the early 1900s, to Grandma Gloria's time. The house has been wisely recuperated keeping the charm of a typical Algarvian country house. Geese and ducks happily caw around the pond and welcome you!

Our best day in Portugal hands down!! It felt like an authentic day in Portugal with amazing people who immediately felt like family we hadn't met. Just being on a farm rich with history was good enough but the food was amazing and the conversation was the best. A huge thank you to Gloria, Joao, Maria and Ines for special memories! We will be back - hopefully soon Kim and Tony Armstrong

My husband and I just experienced an orange picking and a farm to table lunch at a beautiful organic orange tree farm run byJoao and Maria. Our tour was organized by Gloria who met us at the farm and accompanied us along the tour as well. Joao, Maria and Gloria are very special people and gave us a one of a kind experience at the farm. When we arrived we went orange picking and learned about the process and history of the farm and the people who have lived there. We tasted oranges and tangerines picked fresh from the trees as we walked back to Joao and Maria’s home where we learned how to make orange marmalade with our fresh oranges. As the marmalade was simmering, we were treated to a delicious, authentic Portuguese lunch made by Joao and Maria. It was delicious! We talked and visited around the table and felt like we were visiting with family. Our day ended with a bag of fresh oranges and marmalade to take home. We highly recommend this unique, one of a kind experience. A special thank-you goes out to Gloria, host of Gato Preto and tour organizer for going above and beyond, graciously helping us with suggestions for other day trips during our stay. We would highly recommend her to organize authentic experiences for you and your family, while in Portugal. We look forward to another visit next winter! Sincerely, Steve and Amy Canada

We had a super lovely time visiting an organic orange farm in the Algarve. Gloria, Joao and Maria were fantastic hosts -- it really felt like we were guests at their home, not visitors on a tour! It was an informative and enjoyable experience: the farm was beautiful, the oranges were so delicious, they served us an amazing Portuguese lunch, and were really kind about accomodating our group as well (a few of us were late due to a flat tire). And we all left with oranges and a delicious jar of marmelade as well! :D Would highly recommend this experience for anyone who is interested in local produce and sustainable agriculture, as well as good food and kind people!

This was the perfect start to our Algarve holiday. A truly unique and authentic experience with unique and authentic local people. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable and we felt at home from beginning to end. We and the kids all enjoyed the orange picking and jam making and the lunch was wholesome and delicious. Highly recommend for those looking for an alternative to the usual tourist rush and gloss.

A fascinating day out, picking oranges, finding out about how they are grown, and then learning how to make marmalade with the oranges. And all topped off with a delicious informal lunch with the very friendly farmer! Really well organised, and a lovely day. Highly recommended!

We had a tremendous day, the highlight was meeting João and Maria at their farm and listening to them share their stories and knowledge about the farm. It's an exceptionally beautiful place with beautiful people. Our guide Sofia was super friendly and really knowledgeable about the local area and we felt very welcome. After preparing the oranges for the jam making we shared a fantastic lunch prepared by Maria the same morning, her traditional treats and homegrown/homemade produce were exceptional and we feel lucky to have had the opportunity to try them! All of which were vegan and we appreciate the extra effort and thought that went into preparing this for us. The crown goes to the orange jam, we took a jar back with us but only had one night left in Portugal. We demolished the whole jar between us the following morning at breakfast. Never had anything like it before. Chefs kiss. To top the day off we had an impromptu jam on the banjo with João on guitar, the absolute icing on the cake to a very wholesome day out. Thoroughly recommend.

Our host and hostess were warm and welcoming. We started out at a local market and then went on to the farm. Even though it rained off and on throughout the day, our experience was not dampened in any way. We were given a great tour of the historic home, including great conversation and fabulous food, and we made marmalade from the oranges we picked. It just could not have been a better experience! Highly recommended!

A cosy and great experience. Even though april is towards the end of the orange season, we still managed to pick some oranges in Joao's beautiful garden of orange trees. Matteo is a great guide with interesting knowledge about the town (Silves) who holds a well organised day, with equal parts joy and professionalism.

We had a wonderful tour of Silves with our guide Francisco. He was very knowledgeable and kind. We then had a fabulous lunch in a house surrounded by an orange orchard. The couple hosting us there were very cool! We are so happy to have met them and hear about their process. The kids loved picking oranges in their organic orchard. Everything we ate was healthy, organic and sourced local. The marmalade was delicious and we are now eating it on our toast every morning! Highly recommend for an authentic experience!
