Great tour with Ash! She really gave us a flavor of the local culture, not just the food ( although everything she chose for us was delicious )!

We signed up for the Kai Bites Lunch Tour. Yes, you have lunch at a .locally sourced restaurant, but not what we as tourists think of as traditional Maori food, nor is this really a food tour. Other than the restaurant where the group shared five small plates, we stopped at a local chocolatere for a truffle at the end. Compared to other food tours we have been on, it was lacking. The great value of this tour is the insight into the Maori culture through the overview our guide, Emily, provided as well as the opportunity to informally ask many unanswered questions and fill in some of our knowledge gaps in spite of our visits to multiple museums and sites in New Zealand. Being Maori and knowledgeable of her culture's history as well as the Maori view of past historical and recent current events, she could provide specific viewpoints as well as connect the threads of knowledge we had gathered in our travels.

Our Klan had a wonderful time on this tour with our guide, Emily. We started with a delicious lunch at Kaiser’s Brew Garden and then explored Christchurch’s past and present through Emily’s engaging stories. A standout moment was the phenomenal interactive historical screen at the Christchurch Library. Emily also gave us great dinner recommendations—we chose King of Snake, and it was perfect. The tour wrapped up with a delicious treat from the world-famous Rollickin Gelato, the sweetest ending to a fantastic day.

Our guide, Ashley was very knowledgeable about the city and the food. We tasted a variety of savory and sweet foods and all of them were delicious! Ash is of Māori decent and she incorporated Māori wisdom, history, and cultural practices which really heightened the experience.

My friend and I loved this tour! Ash was an awesome guide—so friendly and knowledgeable. We felt like we learned a lot in a short period of time. We would recommend doing this tour at the beginning of your time in Christchurch because we got some great advice from Ash on other things to do in the area. Loved the food. Would highly recommend.

We had such a wonderful morning walking tour with Riwai. In addition to taking us to some really special spots for treats and shopping, he shared so much about Maori beliefs and traditions, how those are honored and incorporated in Christchurch, and how the city and its people are both remembering and carrying forward all parts of their history, good and bad. We learned so much about Christchurch as a city and I feel I also came away empowered to be a better human being! Plus Riwai shared many suggestions for places to go and things to do that made our whole weekend wonderful, including a very special dinner reservation. Highly recommend for those wanting an impactful experience with Christchurch especially if you have a short visit!

The walking tour was a great day out—fun, enjoyable, and well-organised. Our host was fantastic—very charismatic, funny, and made the experience engaging from start to finish. However, I found it to be very overpriced. The rough calculations of what was included versus what you actually received didn’t quite add up in terms of value. I would still recommend the experience for the enjoyment, but be prepared that the price feels extremely high for a walking tour.
