The trail is all uphill. The guide walked very fast at the beginning and we had horses behind us following us. So we felt preasured to get on a horse, and targeted because of our age. (Sixty) I understand they want to make money but it was very manipulative and not a good experience. If we were left to do the hike on our own speed I would've maybe made it. They pushed and pushed the horse for 300 and demanded a tip. The kid seemed dissapointed with 50 for a tip. That kind of made it not the best experience for us. Otherwise the rest was good.

Great communication. Pickup was on time. Our guide Wendy was exceptional! We loved it !! The pizza at the top is a fantastic add-on. So worth it.

Our group of 4 seniors booked the tour through a tour desk near our hotel in Antigua. We were to be picked up from that location, transferred to another bus, then transported to the volcano park entrance. There is a restroom there, kids renting out hiking sticks for the duration of the hike, and the kiosk to pay for park admittance. Our group had a main guide, along with a couple others. Our main guide was very nice. You could also rent a “taxi” for the hike. A horse. Several did opt in, and they continued to offer this horse service for quite a while at points during the hike up. It was nice to have a walking stick for both the uphill, and descent. Footing is mostly loose. The hike was not easy for us, and we certainly were not the fastest of the group. However if we were doing the hike on our own, it would’ve been a lot more fun taking more breaks along the way. We did have a good time on the hike, and the scenery was wonderful, but we would not do any organized hike like that again. Been there, done that!

This was a wonderful private tour! We took the horses up and down, highly recommend especially if you are not a big hiker! The horses were a bit pricey but worth it! Daniel was a good guide and made the experience better!

So overall a good experience, but the value is not there. You should know that the admission to the park/trespass fee is 100Q each, and was not included in the $100 per person tour fee. Both the driver Roberto and guide Daniel were excellent. They took time to show us as much as possible and explained about the volcano’s eruption history, culture, geography, agriculture, etc. That being said, for paying a premium price this didn’t feel like a premium experience. If I had paid $35 (like the other options offered for Pacaya tour) this would have been 5 stars.

We had a private tour for 2 people booked for 1:30 pm. I messaged them the evening before to ask for confirmation; the following morning, which was the day we were supposed to have the tour, they sent me back a confirmation with the wrong date and time. I immediately messaged them asking to confirm the CORRECT date & time (both on WhatsApp and Viator), and received zero response for several hours. By this time, it was almost time for our pickup. My friend and I were concerned that we wouldn’t get to go at all, since they had disappeared and weren’t responding, so we actually went to another tour agency and were about to spend money on a backup tour; we thought these people had ghosted us. Finally, at the very last minute, they responded to my urgent messages and admitted they’d send the incorrect time. Just an unnecessarily stressful experience. Then, when we did finally find the driver and get to the volcano, we were told our original guide did not show up, and we had to wait for a replacement. Just terrible logistics all around. Walking up the volcano, our new guide seemed very bored and barely spoke to us. This tour is too expensive to be such a bad experience.

OK afternoon hike - we were very happy to climb the volcano. It would be great if there was hot lava as in the photos, but the last eruption was 5 years ago. We booked a private tour - the agency almost put us in a group. The guide was nice enough, but spent most of his time on his mobile. The vehicle was in poor shape, terribly uncomfortable and actually probably pretty unsafe with low backs on the seats.

Daniel was our guide and he was very friendly. We asked for an English tour but we understood some Spanish so he did it in Spanish and translated specific words we needed help with. He taught us about the volcano activities and the nearby communities. It was a somewhat easy hike but we do have some physical conditioning, so for a sedentary person might be a bit challenging. The weather in the top is VERY windy, so it's where it gets colder, but during the hike itself it wasn't cold. He was very patient all the way, very nice dude!

What an incredible experience! Daniel went above and beyond as a tour guide. He taught us about local plants and knew so much about the local area and the volcanoes. He really made the experience so much better, would recommend to anyone!
