The river of Preveli leading to the beach has small streams and ponds. It is surrounded by high cliffs and a magical palm tree forest which was inhabited during the 70’ties by hippies from all over the world. And no wonder – the place invites to peace and harmony. The Kourtaliotiko Gorge, also known as the Asomatos Gorge , is a gorge on the southern side of the western part of the island of Crete. It is situated where the Kourtaliotiko River flows southwards between the mountains of Kouroupa and Xiron. The village of Koxare is at the northern end of the gorge.
