Begin by meeting your guide at Lucerne Railway Station at 7:45am. You may purchase food and drink items at the station to bring for your picnic lunch. At 8:18am, depart the station by train and take 50-minute ride along the shores of two lakes, followed by a bus. Then take a historic funicular up a steep mountain to reach the car-free resort village of Stoosat 4265 ft (1300 m). A brief hike through the pretty mountain village will take you to the chairlift station where you take a relaxing 20-minute ride on a chairlift to the top of Klingenstock (operating times depend on weather). As the chairlift quietly takes you higher, enjoy the unfolding mountain panoramas around you. Your real hike begins at the top with a 360 degree alpine view. Take a spectacular 3-4 hour hike along a mountain trail that meanders along the ridge from one alpine peak to another. Sturdy steel cables and chains are placed at critical points along the way to provide added security to the hiker. Take a well-deserved break for a 1-hour picnic lunch (you must bring your own food) at one of the many stops along the way and marvel at the views while enjoying the break. Along the route you may be lucky to see farmers at work harvesting wild hay on the steep mountain slopes. A refuge hut gives information about this age-old farming method, its challenges and its importance for the maintenance of the local ecology. A short steep final ascent gets you up to the Fronalpstock where the highest restaurant in the canton of Schwyz is located. Reward yourself at the Swiss restaurant with an unbeatable view over the whole Lake Lucerne for about an hour before catching a chair lift back down to Stoos. Make your way back to Lucerne by bus and train (or by boat depending on the time; at a small extra cost). Return to Lucerne between 5-6pm depending on the return route chosen.

What a fabulous experience from start to finish for this day tour experience. Everyone from Echo rail was very helpful booking this excursion. Communication was very straightforward and timely. I can’t say enough praise for our guide Walter. So pleasant and accommodating with our skill level. We loved hearing more about the Luzerne area and would not have enjoyed this journey nearly as much without him. Messaging through email and What’s App was very helpful. Thank you for a great experience.

Alexandra was our guide and she was amazing. Picked us up at our hotel and guided us all day. Excellent knowledge and awesome conversation. She was very well prepared with an extra jacket for my wife. The views from Stoos were amazing and we got some great pictures. Can’t wait to come back and do another tour.

Andreas was a wonderful guide - knowledgeable, friendly and fun. There was fog on the mountain but he made sure to get us to spots for great views and pictures. He even showed us sites in town and helped to get free bus passes for the duration of our stay from our hotel. Great experience!

This was the second day hike of the week with EchoTrails. Our guide Thomas Mosier met us at the Lucern train station on time and off we went. This is a strenuous hike down one side and up the other but the views of the lake and the area are spectacular. Can’t say enough about the guides and routes we enjoyed. We enjoyed lunch at the top afterward

Echo trails helped make our experience of the Swiss Alps truly special. My wife and I are fairly self-sufficient, but we had never hiked in the Alps before, so we chose the 8 day semi-guided tour and inn-to-inn hike. The itinerary was planned out very thoughtfully and thoroughly, with the first day guided. It included amazing hikes with spectacular views, and trips to the best destinations like Jungfraujoch. The hotels are booked at each point, with luggage transported and waiting for us after each hike Leo our guide was amazing. He was patient with us, showed us the important apps, signs, maps, and how to use the half-pass while traveling the Swiss Alps, and gave us a rich background on Swiss culture and history during our first hike. We felt completely comfortable navigating the Swiss Alps when it was time for us to hike to our next hotel. Whether you like big solo inn-to-inn hikes, or prefer to experience natural splendor in groups, we highly recommend Echo Trails!

Hiked the Gratwanderung and got to ride the Stoosbahn. It was a clear day and the scenery was spectacular the whole hike. Our guide, Andrea, was extremely patient when my wife suffered some effects of altitude sickness. Overall a fantastic experience and one I could not have done without a guide.
