Lunenburg
The tour starts in downtown Halifax with a 1.5 hour (approximate) drive to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Lunenburg, considered the finest known example of a British Colonial Era settlement in North America. Settled in 1753, Lunenburg is the second oldest British colony in Canada and home to the world famous tall ship, Bluenose II. Strolling through the streets of Lunenburg will take you back to an era long ago, when most of the inhabitants made their livelihood from the bounty of the sea and home to some of the finest seafood in Canada. See for yourself why this small charming town is one of the most endearing of its kind. You'll have 2:30 hrs. (approximate) to explore the Lunenburg at your leisure and have lunch at one of the town's seafood restaurants.
Peggy's Cove
After you leave Lunenburg, you'll be on your way to Peggy's Cove, home to one of the most famous light houses in the world and Nova Scotia's most iconic landmarks. The scenic drive to Peggy's Cove will take 1:30 hrs. (approximate). The rugged and captivating landscape is awe inspiring for those who have never witnessed the power of the sea, as waves crash along the coastline. You'll have 1 hr. (approximate) to explore the cove's fishing village, browse some of the area's small quaint shops, and take some amazing photographs that you'll cherish for years to come. The tour concludes with your stop in Peggy's Cove and you will return to Halifax 1 hr. (approximate) later.

Justine, the guide, was excellent and, being a native, knowledgeable and friendly. The wonderful weather was an added bonus. The small group tour (there were 5 of us) is the way to go. About the right amount of time allocated to each destination. It's hard to go wrong with Peggy's Cove and Lunenburg. Highly recommended. However, I can't say the same about the tour overlord. Booking was the worst I've ever had; the process was so annoying we almost didn't go. I booked online through a local company, I thought, but ended up being routed to an American Trip Advisor subsidiary called Viatour; I had to unnecessarily open an account. (Now I'm being spammed by Trip Advisor). This was a Canadian tour booked in a Canadian city to a Canadian destination charged to a Canadian credit card, but I was billed in US$. I couldn't even contact the actual local tour operator; they didn't answer their phone and the voicemail inbox was full. Luckily the corporate customer service rep (probably in the Philippines) was well-trained and fixed this by cancelling the tour and rebooking it with different currency. The confirmation email's Reply link didn't work, so I wasn't sure I actually had the tour. It turned out I was confirmed but the day after I received an email cancelling; they'd overbooked and were one seat short. Luckily they had an opening the next day so I was able to contact another well-trained CSR who booked us. (And he couldn't contact the local company to confirm it at the time either). It's a very complicated corporate structure: the local company I initially contacted was not even the actual local company that took us on the tour. Maybe that's the reason for the complicated reservation process; everybody's a middleman. I suppose all's well that ends well -- the weather on the substitute day was better than the original -- but I will think three times before using any of these companies again. At least only one charge (in CAD) appeared on my statement, so there's that.

Great tour with Jeff. Easy pickup/dropoff at hotel. We thought Lunenburg was a little underwhelming but we had great lunch at Dory Mates there. Peggy Cove was certainly a must-visit.
