Kek Lok Si Temple
During the British colonial era, the Chinese community in Penang flourished, practicing their faith with devotion and building many grand temples—some said to rival, if not surpass, those in China. One of the most renowned is Kek Lok Si, often described as the largest Buddhist temple complex in Southeast Asia, resembling a spiritual theme park. Built in 1985, visitors can learn about Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism while exploring its beautifully crafted pagodas, vibrant lanterns, intricate statues, and peaceful gardens. Don’t miss the breathtaking view of George Town from the temple grounds. As the locals say: “You haven’t been to Penang unless you’ve visited Penang Hill and Kek Lok Si.”
Penang Hill
Penang Hill, is a popular tourist destination known for its cool climate, panoramic views, and rich biodiversity. Rising 833 meters above sea level, it offers a refreshing escape from the tropical heat below. Accessible by the historic funicular railway, the hill features attractions like The Habitat, colonial-era buildings, temples, and viewing decks overlooking George Town and the Straits of Malacca. Its lush rainforest is home to diverse flora and fauna, making it ideal for nature lovers. Penang Hill also plays a role in conservation efforts and promotes eco-tourism through sustainable practices and educational programs.

We had a wonderful day-long tour with Jeff. We knew some of the places we wanted to see, and we had already booked a walking tour in Georgetown, so we asked Jeff to take us to some specific places. He asked about our interests and was a careful listener, and took us to places of historical and cultural value, and with interesting flora and fauna. Jeff was a great communicator and delivered a very special day!

We did a full-day private tour with Mr. Law and it was easily the best thing we did on the island. He knows EVERYTHING: history, street food secrets, Peranakan culture, old-school clans, even what’s going on in local politics right now. He explains it all in a super chill, funny way without ever feeling like a lecture. We zipped around George Town, hit hidden spots, temples, and ate where the locals eat. Everything flowed perfectly and he tweaked the plan based on what we liked. If you want a guide who actually gets Penang inside out and keeps it real, book Mr. Law. Hands down worth it!

Our guide Law was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. He took us to our main attractions we wanted to see and also organised us to visit a penang pewter shop and arranging this whilst we were on our tour and a lovely lunch reservation. Fabulous day and highly recommend!

This was a fantastic experience for me, because I was able to see most of the attractions in Penang (George Town) in my wish list. My tour guide was Jeffery See, who is very friendly and knowledgeable. First we visited the Kek Lok Si Temple Complex, which is a few kilometers away from George Town. There are so many temples in this complex, that a minimum of 2 hours are necessary. The rest of the tour was a walking tour in the historical centre of George Town. We visited a few mosques, including the Aceh Street Mosque, and the fabulous Kapitan Keling Mosque. We also went to several old Chinese temples, all of which are richly decorated: the Sin Fah Thong Temple, the Khoo Kongsi Temple, the Choo Chay Keong Temple, the Temple of the Goddess of Mercy, and the Han Jiang Ancestral Temple. We also saw some picturesque street art in Armenia street, the Peh Kong Temple. and the Lim Jetty.
