Chris Hill was the most enthusiastic tour guide of our entire Australia vacation. He gave excellent commentary and played great music on the bus. His happy mood kept us going even in the pouring rain. This tour was A+!

I most recently joined a Phillip Island day tour with Go West Tours from Melbourne, and it was hands down one of the best tour experiences I’ve ever had. From pick-up to drop-off, everything was seamless and enjoyable. On the way to the Brighton Beach Boxes, we got to drive through the F1 track (truly a bonus for me) as well as the beautiful suburb, St Kilda. We then visited the Moonlit Sanctuary Park — where we got to see kangaroos and wallabies roaming around — as well as the Forrest Caves, the Nobbies, and then the Penguin Parade — where there were spectacular views to be seen ! Our guide, Michael, was truly exceptional, not just as a guide, but as a person too. He made the effort to get to know each and every one of us, creating such a warm and welcoming atmosphere on the bus. What really stood out was how he personalised the tour in his own way to ensure we all had the best possible experience. Michael was patient, incredibly knowledgeable, and naturally funny, which made the journey both informative and entertaining. I had the opportunity to be his copilot during the bus rides, and it was such a lovely experience getting to know him on a more personal level. Seeing how much pride and dedication he has for what he does was honestly very inspirational. While the destinations on this tour were certainly highlights, I truly believe that Michael was the one who made the entire experience perfect — if you do have the chance to request him as your guide, I would strongly encourage you to do so !

  • Conflicted.....

I was a bit nervous going on my own, but from the minute I got on the bus I knew that the day was going to be fabulous. I got to sit next to our driver up front and everyone in the group was friendly. I really enjoyed the day which was well paced ending at the penguin parade. Here is why I am conflicted.... we are there to see the beauty of nature and not to interfere with natural habitat. So many tourists adults and children alike did not respect any instructions from the guides and those that work there. If you are told over and over that lights/flash lights/videos harm the penguins why do you keep flashing your camera and taking videos. I found the asian tourist most disrespectful trying to get penguin mages at all cost. I felt I was on a school trip reminding everyone not to use their cameras and flash lights. This is what ruined it for me.. how selfish people are to see the wonders of nature but harming animals at the same time. Therefore I would never do this again. On the way back to the city, we got word we might be able to see southern lights so we made a detour and we did! So the day and night eded on a good note. The tour company and the guide were great, but the penguin parade as I said I would never do again due to the number of disrespectful tourists.

  • Great experience and a great tour guide

Tour guide was Jai who was very friendly and funny. Gave us some top tips for the penguin viewing which was useful among the throng of people (does get super busy). All in all a really nice day with a few stops along the way to break things up which were all fun.

This was a great experience and well worth the money! I did 2 tours with Go West while I was in Melbourne and absolutely recommend this company. Pick up was smooth and easy. The bus was very comfortable and has lots of room. The tour guide was knowledgeable about the city, places to eat, the wildlife, conservation on Philip Island, and we stayed with the penguins way after a majority of tourists went home. This was a highlight for my time in Melbourne, thank you for the wonderful time!

  • Penguins being the main event

It’s a very long day being picked up at lunchtime and not back in Melbourne till after midnight. It felt a very long day for the main event being the Penguin Parade. The Parade itself is simply amazing but would suggest taking the guided ranger tour to get the best experience, In our view the tour would benefit from a better quality tea/coffee place as the food at the wildlife sanctuary and the parade are very cafe like. The moonlit sanctuary was ok but could have had less time there In our view the tour could be condensed with a later start option with just a stop for dinner Jess our tour guide was good but we had been spoilt on a previous trip by Woody who was an outstanding!!!! Guide
