What To Expect
One of the most authentic, old and most respected customs and crafts in Bulgaria - picking roses and producing rose oil! In this tour, you can not only personally get to know the flower of the gods - the oil-bearing Kazanlak Rose, which is grown only in these latitudes, but also take part in the ancient ritual on picking roses with the local rose-pickers dressed in folk traditional costumes during the rose picking season, with the tasting rose sweet, gulovitsa and rose liqueur. And then you will visit an old house where you will learn to brew the rose oil and extract the rose water. You will see local mode of life and centuries-old Bulgarian customs and traditions, which local residents will share with you. A visit to the Bulgarian Rose factory will take you to a demonstration of rose soap making. The operator reserves the right to make amendments in the programme/itinerary because of the different time of rose maturing in the region. The activity happens in 2 destinations - Karlovo and/or Damascena near Kazanlak as the order is reconfirmed with the customers. For 30.05.2026, the tour features the Rose Festival in Karlovo with extra activities and linked locations.

Pretty Location - Needs More Coordination

3.00The vendors were very nice but not well coordinated. Apparently it is self-guided, where you have to drive yourself to the various activities which wasn't clear from the description when I signed up. There is no one onsite guiding you and the first vendor told us there were no other activities planned for the day, which was pretty confusing. For over $100 per person, I felt we should have gotten more.
Train delays prevented me from attending

1.00On the morning of the day, the train from Sofia was delayed and I could not participate. Viator has also been contacted but has received no response. The tour companies have an attitude that it is the responsibility of the participants not to be able to attend, as public transport may be delayed. We were supposed to be on tour until 12pm, but they gave us a timetable until 21:30, and told us to join the street, because today is a festival there is so much to see.
